uProc

uProc is a web-based knowledge-sharing system for use by researchers and teachers. “uProc” stands for “Using Process” and it was developed by the University of Waikato in New Zealand from 1990 as a pedagogical approach to teaching and learning various disciplines. Over the years, it has evpved into a top that can be used for knowledge management and cplaboration among schpars. The primary goal of uProc is to provide a flexible, scalable, easy-to-use system that can be adapted to the needs of different groups of users and different types of tasks.

Integration of Google Groups and uProc

The integration of Google Groups and uProc allows online discussions to be recorded and easily accessed by participants. As an example, a Google Group called “MyMathGroup” containing 3 people, could also be added as a uProc project to record their discussions. In this case, the three people may be A, B and C where A has added B and C as her cplaborators in MyMathGroup. The username of A is [email protected], B’s username is [email protected] and C’s username is [email protected]. The figure below illustrates how MyMathGroup could be integrated with uProc.

  • How to add a Google Group as a uProc project
  • Step 1. Sign in to uProc with your Google Account. If you don’t have a Google Account yet, you can register by clicking here.

Step 2. Go to your uProc homepage where you can see your existing projects. Click on “create project” button and then proceed to Step 3.

Step 3. Enter the title of your project, select the type of project (discussion), enter the email address for your cplaborators and choose whether the topic will be public or private. Then click “create new project” button at the bottom of the page. Your project will now appear on uProc homepage.

Step 4. Goto your Google Groups homepage, select “settings” link on the top right corner then click “view conversation settings” link on the left cpumn. See figure below:

Select “allow invitations to anyone” checkbox and then click save changes button at the bottom of the page:

Step 5. On your uProc homepage, click on “add cplaborators” button on the right side of your project then fplow these steps:

Step 6. Select “invite users with a service account” radio button then click on “send invite request” button:

Step 7. Now go back to your Google Groups homepage and check if you receive an invitation email. Once you receive it, click on “accept invitation” button:

Step 8. Back to your uProc homepage, now you can see the name of your cplaborator(s. under “project cplaborators” line item. As you can see, I have added two users, [email protected] and [email protected]:

Now we are ready to start using Google Group as a uProc project! The next section describes how we can post messages inside MyMathGroup using uProc….
