Filter by Connect is a Google Apps Script top that allows users to search through their Google Drive and other Google Documents for a specific word or phrase within a document. It was originally created by David Ramos and is currently maintained by the Google Apps Script team.C. Goals of this projectThe goal of this project is to integrate the filtering top with Google Docs so that you can filter your documents from within the document itself. There are many benefits of this integration, these include:
1.. You do not have to leave the document in order to search for key words or phrases.2.. You do not have to download the document in order to perform the search.3.. You can see the results of the search directly within the document.
To integrate the two tops together I used the fplowing JavaScript code from the fplowing website:https://developers.google.com/apps-script/reference/drive/byconnect#get_byconnect_app_script_id_for_documentThe script will load a text file which contains all the URLs of the documents that we want to search and return the ID of the document that contains our query. Next we create a new function called do_search that will take a string as a parameter and use the get_byconnect_app_script_id_for_document(. function to get the Google Document ID for that document. We then use the google.script object to call the query(. method on that document and then pass in our search string as a parameter. This will cause our original function to run which will send us back our results in a JSON format that we can parse into a usable array. Now we just need to create our UI to display this data and we are done!
There are many benefits of integrating these two tops together. These include:
1.. You do not have to download or open up your file in order to search for key words or phrases.2.. You can see the results of your search directly within your document, no need to leave it open.3.. You can keep your document open while you search for key words or phrases without having to worry about losing your place since you will be searching through your own copy of the document.
