  • Google Cloud Print (GC. is a service that allows users to print from any Google Chrome browser, mobile device or computer. It was first introduced in September 2010. At the time of its introduction, it was limited to only Chromebooks and Linux based computers. After its initial release, Google CloudPrint was further improved by increasing its range of compatibility to include Mac OS X, Android, iPhone, iPad, BlackBerry, Windows PC and WebOS.

  • SMS Alert is an application that can be used to send alertsotifications on various smartphone devices. When the program is installed on a computer, it can send text messages to all devices connected to the same cell phone number. This feature is particularly useful when the user forgets to take his/her cell phone with him/her, thus missing important calls or messages. SMS Alert can also be used to deliver important information about an event or meeting at the user’s convenience.

  • Integration of Google CloudPrint and SMS Alert
  • Google CloudPrint is a great top for printing documents from one’s laptop or desktop computer to a printer connected to the same network. It is especially useful when one cannot find his/her physical printer driver disc, or if the user has lost the CD containing the printer driver files. Although Google CloudPrint is indeed convenient, it is still limited to printing documents stored on any computer connected to the same network. Printing using Google CloudPrint requires two separate steps. sending the document to the Google CloudPrint server and then sending the document to the desired location (printer. If the user wants to print documents stored on their phones or tablets, he/she must first print them via their PC or Mac before sending them to their phones or tablets.

    SMS Alert is an application that uses cell phone technpogy to alert users of events. The application is compatible with several major brands of smart phones including Apple iPhone, Google Android, Nokia Symbian and BlackBerry. Users of this application are able to schedule events that will be triggered by the time or day. For example, if one wants to send alerts regarding an event at 6 pm, he/she would simply select 6 pm as the trigger time and the message content would be automatically sent at 6 pm. Once an event has been scheduled with SMS Alert, the user will receive a notification on his/her phone even if he/she is not currently using his/her cell phone. This feature of SMS Alert makes it extremely useful in the workplace when employees need to be alerted of upcoming meetings or events. Additionally, employees who are away from their computers can still receive important e-mails from their supervisors.

    In this assignment, I have chosen to integrate these two applications so that users can conveniently print documents from their smartphones without having to access their computers. In order for this integration to work properly, both Google CloudPrint and SMS Alert must be installed on a designated computer. This computer must have a printer installed and must also have a physical connection with the smartphone being used for this integration. After installing both applications on a computer and connecting a printer to it, both applications should appear on the computer just as they normally would. The computer should then be set up so that when a user sends a document from his/her smartphone via SMS Alert, it would also be sent to the printer connected to the computer via Google Cloud Print. The fplowing steps illustrate how one can set up this integration:

    After setting up this integration, users can print documents from their phones without going through the hassle of downloading the document onto their laptops first. Users can simply access a desired document from their phones, send it via SMS Alert and then watch as it prints out onto a printer that is physically connected with their computers via Google Cloud Print service. This makes printing from smartphones much more efficient as users do not have to go through numerous steps in order to print documents from their smartphones. Furthermore, this integration saves users money as they no longer have to purchase expensive physical printer drivers for their smartphones. With this integration set up properly, users can easily print documents from their smart phone by simply accessing those documents on their phone first and then forwarding them via SMS Alert to their computers which are physically connected with their printers via a cable. This integration allows users to cut down on printing costs as they no longer have to buy expensive physical printer drivers for their smart phones.
