Google CloudPrint is a service that allows users to print from any devices even when they are not around their printers or computers. It works by sending the document to the cloud which then sends it to the printer. The user has to install Google CloudPrint Plugin to be able to receive documents from the cloud. The plugin then allows the users to print, save or download the files to their local drives or devices. Initially, Google CloudPrint supported only Google Docs. But now it can also support Adobe Reader, Google Chrome, Apple Safari, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome (Windows), and HP ePrint.
Google Cloud Print was introduced by Google in July 2010. "Cloud Print" enables users to print from any device with access to the Internet to any printer registered with Google Cloud Print that is connected to the same network as that device. Users can use Google's Gmail web interface and the Gmail mobile app for Android and iOS to print emails. They can also use Google Apps, such as Google Docs and Google Sheets. They can also use third party software such as Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat through plugins or add-ons.Currently, there are two versions of Google Cloud Print. Classic Cloud Print and Universal Cloud Print. Classic Cloud Print supports printing from a browser on a desktop computer or laptop and is integrated with Google Docs, but does not offer access to all supported printers. Universal Cloud Print has two components. a server component running on a Windows or Linux server; and one or more virtual printer drivers that must be installed on each client computer using a supported operating system. The server component, when properly configured, provides access to all printers that have been registered with Google Cloud Print by other clients on the same network segment. Its client component offers a print driver for each client that supports Universal Cloud Print, allowing printing of documents to any printer accessible via the server component. This version can be used to enable remote printing without installing a printer server on each client computer, as well as providing access to more printers than are available locally. It also provides an alternate method of accessing printers if the network connection between the client computer and its printer goes down for some reason. In addition, both forms of Google Cloud Print can be used to enable printing from Android devices via an Android app provided by Google called "Google Cloud Print Service for Mobile".
In January 2018, Google released "Android Auto Wireless", which allows Android Auto users to wirelessly connect their smartphone to their car stereo via WiFi instead of USB cable. The feature is based on the Wireless Direct Printing function of Google Cloud Print, which lets you connect your phone to your printer wirelessly using a compatible app that supports this function such as the photo printing app Photo Printing Pro.
