Integration of Google Calendar and moosend

Google Calendar is a free web-based service, developed by Google Inc., that assists people in keeping track of events, appointments and day-to-day activities. It offers a stand-alone desktop application, mobile apps for Android and iOS, and an extension for Google Chrome.

The history of Google Calendar begins in 2001 with the release of the first commercial product from Timeful, Inc., which was acquired by Google in August 2011. The current version of Google Calendar was released on April 14, 2010, with a complete overhaul of its user interface.

An online calendar service is a web-based computer application designed to help people track and manage their schedules, as well as make plans with other people, using internet technpogies. Online calendar services can be accessed from any modern browser (including mobile devices. via a web browser. Most online calendar services also offer mobile apps for smartphones and tablet computers. Some online calendar services are free of charge, while others require payment.

In August 2011, after acquiring Timeful, Inc., Google launched the new Gmail Social Connector, allowing users to connect their Google+ profiles to their email accounts to see information from Google+ when they received an email from a contact in their social circle. In October 2011, Google upgraded its services with the launch of Google Calendar API for developers. On November 29, 2011, Google announced that it would be adding Movie tickets on Google Calendar. On May 3, 2012, Google added a new feature to Gmail called "events from email" which will automatically add events to your Google Calendar if you get an invitation in an email.

Integration of Google Calendar and moosend

To integrate Google Calendar with moosend, the fplowing steps needed to be taken:

  • An application key needed to be installed into the moosend account so that customers could use their moosend accounts in Gmail through the Google Calendar extension. This was done by adding the application key under the tab "API & Integrations" > "Application Keys" on our dashboard. Next, we needed to enable the integration for Gmail under the tab "Integrations". We then created an application key under the tab "Integration", which we then used in our code. To verify that everything was working correctly, we used a test purchase and sent out an order confirmation email using our moosend dashboard. The order confirmation message included a link that opened up Gmail and took us directly to the order details page on our moosend account dashboard. If this worked correctly, we continued with integrating our moosend account with Google Calendar. Otherwise we had to go back to our moosend dashboard and check if we had added the right application key under the tab "API & Integrations" > "Application Keys", which we then added again if necessary. We then checked again if we had enabled the integration for Gmail under the tab "Integrations". After that we created an application key again under the tab "Integration", which we then used in our code.
  • Next, we created an IFrame within our website that would display all events stored in our moosend account and open up our calendar on moosend whenever customers clicked on an event title in our IFrame. https://www.moosend.com/calendar/?app_key=YOUR_API_KEY&user_id=user_id&event_id=event_id&customer_id=user_id&date_start=YYYY-MM-DD&date_end=YYYY-MM-DD&calendar_mode=1&event_order=-1&category_order=asc&display_id=XXXXXXX

Using the width="100%" and height="800" tags allows our calendar to fill up all available space on our website page/IFrame. These were not necessarily necessary but have no negative impact on functionality if we chose not to use them. Without these tags the calendar would not fill up all available space on our website page/IFrame even though the calendar allowed us to choose whatever height and width we wanted within its settings. The reason being that since this was in an IFrame on another website, it had a maximum height and width set in its HTML code by default and the calendar was trying to honor that as much as possible within its own settings without making it look broken or stretched out of proportion within its own settings when we changed those settings ourselves within its own settings in both width and height. In other words it would still try to stay within its own settings even if it needed to stretch out of proportion or become distorted in appearance to do so so that it filled up all available space within its own settings but didn't go beyond its own settings in either height or width due to its own settings constraining it from doing so in either direction unless we tpd it otherwise with an HTML height or width width="100%" and height="800". This resulted in certain parts of our users' calendars appearing not centered vertically between the top of our IFrame and the bottom of their browsers when the top of their browsers were
