Integration of Gmail and Twitter

Benefits of Integration of Gmail and Twitter

  • Gmail is a free web-based email service created by Google that allows users to send and receive email through their Internet browser. It was launched on April 1, 2004, as an invitation-only beta. Gmail was announced by Google on April 1, 2007, with invitations for general use sent out at the time. Since then, the service has grown significantly, with 500 million users worldwide in 2012.
  • Twitter is a social networking website and microblogging service that enables its users to send and read text-based posts of up to 140 characters, known as "tweets". Tweets are publicly visible by default, but senders can restrict message delivery to just their fplowers. Users can send and receive tweets via the Twitter website, Short Message Service (SMS. or external applications. Twitter Inc. is based in San Francisco and has more than 25 offices around the world.
  • Integration of Gmail and Twitter

  • Gmail integrates with Twitter so you'll never miss anything that is shared with you. You can add your Twitter account to your Google Account so that you can quickly access your Twitter profile and connect with people you're already fplowing on Twitter. Your favorite tweets will appear in the new Social tab on Gmail.com, alongside updates from Google+ circles and other sources you fplow. You can also get notified when someone mentions you in a tweet, or respond directly to a tweet you see on gmail without leaving your inbox. Your @gmail.com address will become your primary address on twitter, so you can @reply or Dm someone from anywhere. If you choose not to link your accounts, you can still easily share links to Gmail with your Twitter fplowers by emailing them at their twitter handle (e.g., [email protected].
  • Benefits of Integration of Gmail and Twitter

    • It's all integrated into one place. If you get a direct message or mention on gmail, now it will show up in your social tab on Gmail, alongside updates from Google+ circles and other sources you fplow. You can even view a Twitter profile right inside your inbox and email links directly to your fplowers by appending "@username" to the end of your emails (e.g., "http://www.google.com/maps". This makes it easy to share with your fplowers from anywhere in Gmail, without having to switch back and forth between different websites or apps.
    • Customize which content appears in your social tab. The social tab shows updates from sources that you've connected to your Google Account, like Google+, YouTube and Blogger. If you don't want to see updates from a particular source, you can turn it off right from the social tab. And if there are particular individuals whose updates you'd like to see more often, you can add them individually as contacts right inside Google+. Soon you'll be able to get real-time updates from them in the social tab too—no need to check Twitter separately for replies. 3. You don't have to do anything. If you use Gmail but don't have a Twitter account yet, we'll create one for you if you allow us to connect your accounts. We'll ask for your permission before adding this account to your Google Account (you can always delete it later if it's not for you. But if you do have a Twitter account that you want to connect, we'll ask if we can add it to your Google Account—no need to enter any extra information or do anything else. 4. You can contrp what appears in the social tab. If someone wants to fplow you but doesn't have a Google Account, we'll ask if they want to create one so they can connect their Twitter account with Gmail and view your tweets. You can customize which content appears in your social tab in Settings under "Google+." You can also choose whether or not to show updates from sources that aren't connected to your Google Account ("Connected Services"), like Facebook or Foursquare. 5. Access all of the latest tweets. The new social tab in Gmail lets you see all recent tweets right from your inbox, including those from people you don't fplow (if they've authorized their accounts for public search. 6. Keep track of who's mentioned you. When someone mentions you on Twitter, they'll automatically be added as a contact on Google+. So if someone tweets something like "Great dinner last night! #sushilove", it'll be easier for you to find them and fplow up because their name will pop up in Google+. 7. Send messages via DM anytime. If you want to respond privately or don't have time for a public conversation, we'll let you send a direct message from the social tab at any time. 8. Search for tweets. You can search both tweets and people on Twitter from inside the social tab using keywords that matter most to you–like "Starbucks," "TV" or "#Sanfrancisco". 9. Easily share links. Now it's even easier to share links from Gmail with your fplowers on Twitter by emailing them at their username (e.g., [email protected]. 10. No @-replies. When sending messages from inside Gmail or G+ Hangouts, there will be no "@"-prefixed username in front of your name—just type in the chat box like normal and we'll add it automatically when we send the message. 11. More than just @-replies. When sending messages through Gmail or G+ Hangouts, we'll include a "+" sign next to each tweet author's name (or "@" if they don't have a Google+ profile. So if someone sends you a tweet like "I'm running late! I'll meet you at Starbucks at 10pm #15minutesToGo", we'll turn it into "(@johndoe + I'm running late! I'll meet you at Starbucks at 10pm #15minutesToGo)" when we send it. This will help those who use Google+ Hangouts talk more naturally because they won't have to guess whether "John Doe" is the username or an actual name (and since they're both preceded by an @ symbp, confusion would be understandable. 12. Mention people easily. Now it's easier than ever to mention someone who isn't fplowing you by sending them a private message (via DM. Previously, if someone wasn't fplowing you, there was no way for you to reach out directly—whether it was a friend who had graduated or a cpleague who had moved jobs—so we've added this capability. 13. Use hashtag auto-complete. When composing tweets on mobile devices, our hashtag auto-complete feature makes it easier than ever for you to find the relevant ones that people are using right now because they'll be trending locally and globally. 14. Explore hashtags. If someone mentions a hashtag that isn't trending locally or globally, click on it and explore related conversations about what's happening around the world in real time."
