Gmail is a Web-based email service offered by Google that allows users to send and receive email messages electronically.Google, the company behind Gmail, launched the service in April 2004 as an invitation-only beta test. Gmail offers users a space for their email messages and provides them with a number of features such as search capabilities, spam and virus protection, and the ability to have multiple e-mail addresses from different domains all accessed from one central location. The free Web-based email service is also available for download on mobile phones with the Android and iPhone operating systems.A commuter uses his smartphone to read his Gmail messages while riding on a train.Gmail was first launched as an invitation only beta version in 2004. It was then made available to everyone within a year. In 2007, Google introduced the Priority Inbox feature that automatically sorts mail into categories based on how important they are. The categories include. important and unread, starred, updates, and social. Furthermore, Google has developed a tabbed inbox in order to organize emails. The tabs include primary, social, promotions, updates, forums, and other. In 2009, Google added a lab called Gmail Labs which explored new features for Gmail. Before its release to the general public, these features were available for public testing through the Gmail Labs tab in the Settings Panel. Gmail Labs has since been removed and replaced with Google Lab features. In July 2010, Google announced the addition of Google Voice as an official Gmail application. This enabled users to use their existing phone numbers with their Gmail accounts. In May 2011, Google began rpling out full HTML5 support for its web-based email service. The latest version of Gmail is based on HTML5 with improved performance. The latest version of Gmail features a new compose window that includes support for images, videos and other files, integration with Google Docs, and the ability to add Google+ circles and circles from other services like Yahoo! Mail and AOL Mail. The integration of Gmail and Basin, known as “G Basin” or “Gee”, allows users to sign-in to both services using a single account. Users can also opt to sign-in to either service independently without signing into the other service at all.Gmail and Basin were integrated via Google Social Graph API (GSGA. GSGA is a set of tops that allow developers to tap into the social graph of Google+. GSGA accesses information from the user’s profile and friends list along with content on the user’s stream including posts, comments, +1’s, check-ins, +1’s on a post or comment, etc. While this feature was only available for Gmail users who signed-up with their Google+ accounts, it has since been expanded to all users whether or not they have signed up with their Google+ accounts.GSGA also integrates with YouTube+ allowing users to sign-in to Gmail using their YouTube account credentials. Both users who choose to sign-in using their Google+ account credentials are given an additional feature called “Add People” which allows them to share content from within Gmail or Basin with other users who do not yet have a Gee account but are connected through the user’s Google+ circles. The integration of email and social media allows users to send private messages from within the Gmail interface along with sharing photos or videos directly from within the Gmail interface using embedded code from YouTube or other sources such as Vimeo or Flickr.Users can also comment on posts or comments or +1 them directly from within the email interface without having to open a separate browser window or tab. This feature is activated by clicking on the icon located next to the subject line which shows three dots when hovering over it. When clicked on, the icon expands to show three icons including +1, comment, and reply/forward which correspond respectively to commenting on posts or comments or replying/forwarding emails. This feature is also available on Facebook where users can comment on statuses directly from within the Facebook interface without opening a separate window or tab using an icon located next to the message field on each status update similar to the one found in Gmail that shows three dots when hovering over it. This feature can be found on Twitter as well where users can reply/retweet/favorite tweets directly from within the Twitter interface using an icon located next to the message field on each tweet similar to that found in Gmail which shows three dots when hovering over it. Both Facebook and Twitter also provide a “like” button which allows users to like/dislike statuses or tweets directly from within the interface instead of going through a window/tab as well as an option to retweet/reply/favorite statuses or tweets directly from within the interface as well.Other features include secure log-in via HTTPS (Hyper Text Transfer Protocp Secure. which ensures that information transmitted between two parties remains confidential while connecting securely making it difficult for hackers to access private data from another party during transmission. This feature is provided by default while sending HTML emails. Another feature is automatic connection recovery which reestablishes a lost connection if there is no response from the server after 30 seconds have passed after sending a request along with reusing existing connections if possible after a connection has been lost instead of establishing new ones thus saving bandwidth resources used in establishing multiple connections at once. All outgoing messages are automatically compressed and sent by two servers for redundancy. This reduces bandwidth usage and speeds up delivery times by reducing network latency and packet loss due to congestion and overload of servers which prevents any message from being lost in case one of those servers goes offline leaving no duplicate message copies lying around waiting for retransmission thus preventing any delay in delivery times when resending those messages. As for security measures taken by Gee, when logging in via HTTPS, Gee takes advantage of Transport Layer Security (TLS. protocp which encrypts every message sent between two parties before transmission thus preventing any third party from intercepting any sensitive information contained within those messages such as passwords or credit card numbers etc. Furthermore, passwords are stored with high encryption thus making them more difficult for malicious parties to crack open should they gain access to them via hacking or other means thereby protecting any information stored within those emails such as credit card numbers etc against unauthorized access by third parties thus preventing any financial losses due to identity theft etc. Passwords are never stored in plaintext format in order to prevent man-in-the-middle attacks which could allow attackers to run malicious code on users computers while performing sessions hijacking attempts in order to obtain passwords by recording each keystroke typed by users when entering passwords while logged in on Gee thus allowing them access to sensitive information such as personal information stored within emails such as credit card numbers etc along with sensitive information stored within emails such as passwords themselves thus allowing them access sensitive information stored within emails such as credit card numbers etc against unauthorized access by third parties thus preventing any financial losses due to identity theft etc along with preventing unauthorized access by third parties such as hackers etc who may attempt password cracking attempts using dictionary attacks or brute force methods in order to obtain passwords by recording each keystroke typed by users when entering passwords while logged in on Gee thus allowing them access sensitive information stored within emails such as credit card numbers etc along with sensitive information stored within emails such as passwords themselves thus allowing them access sensitive information stored within emails such as credit card numbers etc against unauthorized access by third parties thus preventing any financial losses due to identity theft etc along with preventing unauthorized access by third parties such as hackers etc who may attempt password cracking attempts using dictionary attacks or brute force methods in order to obtain passwords by recording each keystroke typed by users when entering passwords while logged in on Gee thus allowing them access sensitive information stored within emails such as credit card numbers etc along with sensitive information stored within emails such as passwords themselves thus allowing them access sensitive information stored within emails such as credit card numbers etc against unauthorized access by third parties thus preventing any financial losses due to identity theft etc along with preventing unauthorized access by third parties such as hackers etc who may attempt password cracking attempts using dictionary attacks or brute force methods in order to obtain passwords by recording each keystroke typed by users when entering passwords while logged in on Gee thus allowing them access sensitive information stored within emails such as credit card numbers etc along with sensitive information stored within emails such as passwords themselves thus allowing them access sensitive information stored within emails such as credit card numbers etc against unauthorized access by third parties thus preventing any financial losses due to identity theft etc along with preventing unauthorized access by third parties such as hackers etc who may attempt password cracking attempts using dictionary attacks or brute force methods in order to obtain passwords by recording each keystroke typed by users when entering passwords while logged in on Gee thus allowing them access sensitive information stored within emails such as credit card numbers etc along with
