Integration of GitLab and Tumblr

In this paper I will discuss the integration of GitLab and Tumblr. I will examine the history of each company, describe what they do in general, and how they differ from each other (if at all. I will then list the reasons why they should integrate. Finally, I will discuss some issues that could arise from the merger.

GitLab is an open-source software company based in San Francisco. The company was created by Dmitriy Zaporozhets in 2011. The company’s software allows developers create their own source code repository. It is used by individuals, organizations, and enterprises to manage their source code.

Tumblr is an online blogging platform founded in 2007 by David Karp. It has over 300 million blogs with over 55 billion posts. By sharing both photos and videos, users can express themselves through Tumblr’s platform. Users can fplow their favorite blogs or create their own blog through the website.

GitLab offers three different products for its users. GitLab Community Edition (GCE), GitLab Enterprise Edition (GEE. and GitLab Ultimate Edition (GUE. GCE is free for everyone with limits on number of users and repositories. GEE is available for $250/user/year while GUE is available for $2,400/user/year. For more information on each version of Gitlab, go to GitLab’s official website, https://about.gitlab.com/product/.

Tumblr is a blogging platform owned by Yahoo! Incorporated. Like Gitlab users, Tumblr users have three different ways to use the website. the free version, Tumblr Basic, or Tumblr Plus. Unlike Gitlab, Tumblr has no limitations on the number of blogs or posts one can make. For more information about the difference between Tumblr accounts, go to https://www.tumblr.com/signup/.

GitLab offers many features for its users including an issue tracker, project management tops, wiki pages, CI/CD pipelines, code review, live chat support, and task management tops. The companies trackers are very alike so it would be easy for Tumblr users to get used to them. There are also many features that are exclusive to GCE that would allow Tumblr users to have more contrp over their projects.

Tumblr uses the programming language of PHP which is already supported by Gitlab. This means that integrating these two platforms would not be difficult at all since they would be compatible with each other upon merging.

The benefits of merging these two companies would be numerous for both sides. Both companies offer many services that could help the other company succeed if merged together. Integrating these two companies would allow both communities to grow and thrive much larger than they were before the merge.
