This paper will focus on the integration of GitHub and Spotify that has taken place in recent years. The two companies were chosen for this paper because they are two of the most influential companies in the world. The purpose of this paper is to examine how the two companies have integrated their services in order to benefit their fans.
GitHub is a website designed to help users cplaborate on projects. It was created by Tom Preston-Werner, Chris Wanstrath, PJ Hyett and Scott Chacon. It was initially used to host their own projects but soon grew to encompass projects hosted on other websites such as Google Code. GitHub now hosts over 20 million different projects and is one of the world's most popular repositories of code. SourceForge, a competing website, has accused GitHub of stealing its users; in response GitHub added a section to its website entitled "Why we don't use SourceForge".At present the site is valued at $2 billion and is ranked as the top hosting service in the world.
In February 2016, Spotify announced that it would be making changes to its protocp which would allow users to view songs that their friends had recently listened to. If the user liked what they saw, they would be able to add those songs to their own playlist. This new feature of Spotify was made possible due to an integration with GitHub. When a user browses his or her friend's listening history, he or she will see a button which says "Add this track to your library". This is also true for other parts of the website where songs can be added to playlists.
The integration of GitHub and Spotify will make it easier for users of both companies to enjoy each other's services. A user who enjoys music and software will be able to see what his or her friends are listening to at any given time, and he or she will be able create playlists based on that information. A user who enjoys writing software will be able to find out what music his or her friends like, and he or she may discover new gems among those artists' work. This integration will make it even easier for friendships to develop among users of both companies, as well as making their relationship more enjoyable.
The integration of GitHub and Spotify will bring together two incredibly influential companies in an unprecedented way, allowing them to better serve their fans. It also gives new users of either company an easy way to get started on using the services provided by each company.
