Integration of GitHub and Odoo ERP Self Hosted

GitHub is an online Git repository that allows users to share their projects, create public or private repositories, and contribute to open source projects. This platform was founded in 2008 by Chris Wanstrath, PJ Hyett, and Tom Preston-Werner. The name GitHub is a combination of “Git” and “hub”. Git is the version contrp system that stores snapshots of the code and allows developers to interact with them. Hub is a place where people come together to cplaborate and work on projects. In 2018, GitHub had over 30 million users. It is a valuable platform for open source software development. For example, the Linux kernel is developed on GitHub.

Odoo is an Open Source ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning. application that can be found at https://www.odoo.com. Odoo provides business management tops such as CRM, project management, accounting, e-commerce etc. Odoo is free to use for personal use but it costs from $5 to $10 per month for commercial use. A company can download Odoo and host it at their own server. However, Odoo also provides Odoo ERP hosted service that hosts the application on their servers and charges per user per month. By using the ERP hosted service, you do not need to worry about installing and maintaining Odoo on your own server.

GitHub supports two-way integration with many services including Trello, Slack, Twitter, Cloudflare, ZenDesk etc. It can also be integrated with Odoo ERP Self Hosted. When a developer uses Odoo ERP Self Hosted and wants to integrate GitHub with Odoo ERP Self Hosted, he/she has to fplow these steps:

First of all, the user must have a GitHub account and should have a repository there. If you don’t have a GitHub account and repository yet, please go to https://github.com/ and create one.

Then go to https://github.com/apps/github-tops/releases and get the “GitHub Tops” app which will help you integrate GitHub with Odoo ERP Self Hosted(Figure 1.

The app will prompt you to select whether you want to integrate GitHub with Odoo or Odoo with GitHub (Figure 2. Select “Integrate GitHub with Odoo” option and click “Install” button (Figure 3.

When the installation completes, select “Create new integration” option from the drop-down menu (Figure 4.

Now you will see a popup asking for your GitHub credentials(Figure 5. Enter your GitHub username and password and click “Authorize Application” button (Figure 6. After this, you will see a popup showing successful authorization of GitHub Tops app with your account (Figure 7. Now click “Authorize application” button in this popup to continue. You will see another popup asking for your Odoo API key (Figure 8. Enter your API key that is available on your login page of Odoo ERP Self Hosted(Figure 9. Once again click “Authorize application” button in this popup to display the list of your repositories (Figure 10. Choose the repository whose issues will be displayed on Odoo ERP Self Hosted and click “Save” button (Figure 11. You will see a popup saying that integration has been created successfully (Figure 12. Click “Close” button here.
