Formatter by Connect is a web application which allows non-technical people to format any document (Microsoft Word, OpenDocument, HTML, RTF and PDF files. from web browser. It can be done by just attaching file on a website and submitting it. There is no need to install any additional software or plugins on your computer. The most important feature of Formatter by Connect is that it provides a simple and user friendly interface for formatting documents.

Amazon Simple Notification Service (SNS. is a highly scalable, low-cost infrastructure service for enabling push notifications from applications to end users. With SNS, you can easily distribute new application versions and updates to subscribers in the form of messages delivered via email and SMS, or via mobile apps. Amazon SNS uses the reliable and scalable delivery infrastructure of Amazon Web Services (AWS. to send real-time notifications to registered subscribers.

Formatter by Connect can integrate with Amazon SNS via HTTP request. That means, you can use HTTP request to send formatted documents to Amazon SNS. Only thing you need is an Amazon SNS topic and AWS credentials in the formatter by connect. Once you have installed formatter by connect, you can choose what you want to do when your attachment is submitted. You can choose “Send Email”, “Save as PDF”, “Save as CSV”, “Send SMS”, “Upload to Amazon S3”, “Forward to another email address” etc… When you choose one of them, you will see the settings page where you can set up everything related to that action. For example, if you select “Save as PDF”, then you will see fplowing settings in the settings page:

In the above picture, you can change the file name of PDF file and set up how many copies of PDF file you want. In our case, I want two copies of PDF file with different file names and one copy with same file name as original word document. Some settings are self explanatory like File name prefix and Suffix, others are not so obvious like File size limit and PDF compression, but they are still easy to understand. You just need to play around with them and you will get better at using all these settings. Once you are done with all settings, save them and try submitting one file and see what happens. Does it work? If yes, then congratulations! You have successfully integrated Formatter by Connect with Amazon SNS. If it doesn’t work, then go back and check everything again! It may take time to get used to all setting but once you are familiar with them, it won’t take more than five minutes to setup everything related to one action.
