Facebook Shops and Gmail
Gmail is a free web based email service, first launched by Google in 2004. It is currently being used by more than 425 million people from all over the world for their personal use as well as business use. In order to use Gmail one must have a Google Account. In case one already has a Google account, it is very easy to access Gmail. In the case, if one does not have a Google account, one can create one for free by going to the official site of Gmail at http://gmail.com. The web site is available in various languages which means that anyone from any part of the world can access it. Once a person has a Google Account she or he can easily access Gmail on any computer or mobile device with internet connection. The Google Account provides access to all the other Google products such as YouTube, Google+ and Google Drive. One can also access Gmail on any computer using its official web interface (http://gmail.com. Gmail’s interface is simple and easy to understand and use. It has a clean design with minimalistic layout and has many features such as “Contacts”, “Tasks” and “Google Chat” (similar to MSN Messenger and Yahoo Messenger. Gmail has an integrated spell checker and grammar checker which improves the writing style of the user by identifying the grammatical errors and suggesting corrections to them. It also highlights any incorrectly used words in different cpors. Gmail does not have email-filters such as Spam, Junk and Trash fpder filters but it has a “label” feature. Labels are basically fpders which categorize emails into different categories so that user can sort her or his mails according to specific categories rather than having all of them mixed up together in one “Inbox” fpder. Gmail’s search function is quite advanced and effective and allows the users to search for emails according to date, sender, recipient, subject and size as well as allow them to search for emails containing specific keywords within the content of those emails. The user can also easily create groups from their contacts list which will be automatically synced with all Google products such as Google+ or Google Calendar. In addition, there is a feature that allows the user to save attachments from emails directly to her or his computer rather than downloading them to her or his computer via the web interface of Gmail. This feature makes emailing easier as now they do not have to download any attachments they receive via email to their computer via a web browser but rather they can open the file directly from their email inbox without having to save it on their computer first. Basically all the options that are available in the web version of Gmail are also available in its Android application which can be downloaded from the app store for free just like any other Android application. In addition, unlike most Android applications which requires a number of permissions from the user during installation, Gmail only requires the permission for accessing the Internet via Wi-Fi or 3G/4G data connection so basically if a person has an Android phone with data plan then even if she or he does not have a good cellular signal, she or he can still read and send emails so this is quite an advantage for people living in areas where there is no good cellular signal (for example in India due to network issues. The Gmail application has many features similar to those found on its Web interface but it also has some additional features such as quick reply, ability to swipe left or right to archive, delete or mark an email as read/unread (very useful when one receives many emails. and other features that allow the user to customize her or his email experience like cpor coding emails (for example differentiating between personal emails and business emails), ability to set signature (which appears at the end of every email sent by her or him), adding an image next to signature etc. Another important feature of Gmail’s Android application is that it allows the user to integrate her or his social networking accounts such as Facebook, Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn etc. so basically her or his friends’ activities will be displayed on her or his home screen along with his/her own activities so if one receives an email from someone then that specific person’s latest status will appear below that email right on her or his home screen so if she or he wants to respond to that email then he can simply write his reply directly on Facebook without having to open Facebook application separately unless she or he wants to comment on Facebook wall directly instead of replying via email. All these features make Gmail stand out among other email services because it has many unique features no other email service has which makes it very appealing among all age groups especially young people who are mostly using social networking sites nowadays.
Facebook Shops is a new feature recently added by Facebook which allows its users to buy items directly from their Facebook news feed without having to open an external website separately. It works by allowing third party retailers (such as Nike, Apple, HP etc.. to open their own Facebook shop where they list their products for sale. The users can view these products on their news feed by simply liking their page. For example if a user likes Nike’s page then all the products listed in their Facebook shop will appear on her or his news feed along with any updates posted or comments made by other users related to Nike’s page. Users can comment on these posts just like they would comment on any other post on their news feed without having to visit Nike’s page separatelly. If they want they can simply click on any product they like and buy it directly from their news feed without having to visit Nike’s page separatelly. Similarly if they want they can buy any product directly from HP’s Facebook shop just by visiting HP’s page directly while they are browsing through their news feed without having to leave Facebook’s site and visit HP’s official site separately. So basically Facebook Shops makes buying items online more convenient than ever before because one does not have to open multiple tabs on her or his browser just to buy an item from multiple stores but rather she or he can buy anything directly from her or his news feed while browsing through it by simply visiting any page belonging to that retailer such as Nike’s page on Facebook while browsing through her or his news feed and once she/he likes any product she/he will be able to buy it directly from her/his news feed without having to visit Nike’s website separately and search for that product there after opening multiple tabs in her or his web browser and then entering shipping information etc which is very time consuming and inconvenient especially if one purchases something online frequently like most people do nowadays because buying something online is more convenient than doing it offline since everything can be done from anywhere with Internet connection such as shopping, banking, paying bills etc all from the comfort of your home without having to go anywhere physically which saves time and money (in terms of transportation cost.
