Integration of Downtime Alert and Wave

Downtime Alert is a FIS-sponsored wireless application that was designed to provide individuals with the ability to receive emergency alerts, weather warnings, and community notices (http://www.fis.com/products/downtime-alert. It was developed to be an essential part of a company’s disaster recovery plan by providing advance notice of potential power outages or other emergencies (http://www.fis.com/products/downtime-alert. The application is compatible with iOS devices such as the iPhone and iPad, as well as Android devices (http://www.fis.com/products/downtime-alert. Downtime Alert will send push notifications to your device when you are in proximity of an area where there is a potential for a power outage or other type of emergency (http://blog.fiskars.com/2013/09/16/disaster-alert-for-your-smartphone/)

Wave is a mobile app that allows you to access and manage your team’s files and schedules, participate in group discussions, and access information on events and community news (https://getwave.com/tour. Wave was originally designed for workplace cplaboration, but it has transformed into a communication channel for people in communities as well (https://getwave.com/tour. There are currently apps available for both iOS and Android devices (https://getwave.com/tour.

Integration of Downtime Alert and Wave can be beneficial to both the community and corporate entities. When an emergency has occurred it can be extremely difficult for people to figure out if their homes or businesses have been affected; this is why integration of Downtime Alert and Wave can be beneficial. Once an alert has been received through Downtime Alert, the user can then open their Wave app and check out the Downtime Alert map to see if their home or business was affected by the alert (see figure 1.

In addition to helping people find out if their home or business was affected by an alert, integration of Downtime Alert and Wave can help people determine how long they will be affected by a potential outage. While reading the alert notification, users will be able to click on a link that will send them to a page that provides more detailed information about the outage. On this page users will be able to click on a tab called “Community News” which will direct users to the Wave app where they will be able to find out more information about the actual outage. The Wave app will contain a map that shows the affected area, along with links to news articles related to the outage (see figure 2.
