Integration of Downtime Alert and Monkey Learn

  • Downtime Alert?
  • Downtime Alert is an application by Monkey Learn to monitor the status of your website. If Downtime Alert detects any downtime, it sends you a notification through email or text message. You can integrate it with your Slack account so that you receive updates about downtime in real time. It also offers pre-built integrations with popular platforms like WordPress.

  • Monkey Learn?
  • Monkey Learn is a machine learning platform that offers over 40 algorithms for natural language processing, image recognition, text analysis, and more. As I’ve mentioned in my previous post, “How AI Can Be Used To Build A Personalized Chatbot”, Monkey Learn is integrated with Downtime Alert.

  • Integration of Downtime Alert and Monkey Learn
  • Monkey Learn has various powerful features; hence I was curious to see how I could use these features to enhance the functionality of Downtime Alert. So, I decided to integrate them together. Let us first see how we can integrate Monkey Learn with Downtime Alert.

Step 1. On the dashboard of Downtime Alert, click on Integrations.

Step 2. Add a slack integration to your project.

Step 3. Set the fplowing parameters. Slack Workspace, Channel Name, and then click on connect.

Step 4. Go back to the Downtime Alert dashboard and click on Integrations again. Now, add a MonkeyLearn integration to your project. Step 5. Set the fplowing parameters. Project Key, Descriptor Key, and then click on connect. Step 6. Once the integration is added to your project, click on go to dashboard to view your dashboard on MonkeyLearn. Step 7. In the dashboard of MonkeyLearn, select the model you want to connect with Downtime Alert. You can choose from a variety of NLP models like sentiment analysis, word embedding, topic detection, and more. Step 8. Next, configure a new endpoint for your connection. Click on Create Endpoint and set the fplowing parameters. Name – fill in any name you want Description – fill in any description you want URL – paste the URL of your website here Method – paste GET here Content Type – paste application/json here Authorization – paste anonymous here Headers – paste {} here Payload – paste {“status”:1} here Read more about configuring endpoints at https://monkeylearn.com/docs/#auth-api-authentication. Step 9. Once everything is configured, click on Save Endpoints & save your changes. Step 10. Now, let’s test whether our integration is working or not by sending a request to the endpoint we just configured. Here is a sample request. curl -X GET https://api.monkeylearn.com/v2/classifiers/{classifier_id}/endpoint/{endpoint_id} -H "Content-Type:application/json" -H "Authorization. anonymous" -H "Accept. application/json" -d ‘{“status”:1}’ Where classifier_id is the id of your classifier and endpoint_id is the id of your endpoint (which you set in step 8. You can get the classifier id and endpoint id from your MonkeyLearn dashboard. Step 11. Now let’s run our Downtime Alert project and check if we get any notification about downtime in our Slack channel. Our Downtime Alert project should be running online (with no downtime. while testing this integration. Step 12. Now let’s simulate downtime by shutting down our website for 30 seconds (the length of time you set in step 2. Step 13. Since we are using MonkeyLearn, you should notice that we get a text message after 30 seconds (since that’s how long we simulated downtime. We should also get an email notification once our website goes back online (since that’s how long we set it in step 2. Step 14. As seen in the screenshot above, you can see that we get a text message about downtime in our Slack channel within 30 seconds. Step 15. We should also get an email notification once our website goes back online (as seen in the screenshot below.
