Downtime Alert is a program that monitors the availability of your email server and alerts you when the server goes down. It provides a visual alert in the form of a pop-up window, a sound alert, or both. Using a list of pre-defined servers, it can be configured to monitor any number of IMAP or POP3 servers.
IMAP by Connect is an add-on for Mozilla Thunderbird that allows you to synchronize your mail from multiple IMAP Servers, without requiring your data to be sent to a central location. IMAP by Connect uses the open standard IMAP protocp to synchronize your email between multiple servers. In addition, it offers advanced features such as support for editing email headers, storing attachments locally, and advanced search functions.
There is a definite integration between Downtime Alert and IMAP by Connect. The main purpose of this integration is to provide online users with an alternative method of receiving notification when their email service is not available. When an email service is not available, Downtime Alert will generate a sound alert or visual alert that will indicate that the service is unavailable. This not only includes Outlook Express but also other email services that are hosted on Webmail, Exchange, etc. For example, if you are using Gmail on your PC, Downtime Alert will alert you of the outage using its sound alert or visual alert. To make this function more efficient, I am planning on creating an option to receive the alert on your cell phone. The reason for this is because some people have tendency of forgetting what they have on their PC due to being occupied with work or other things on their mind. With phone notifications, even if you are busy at the moment, you will still be notified that your service is down.
The benefits of this integration are quite obvious. Many companies are now shifting from traditional email services to hosted webmail services, which many customers are using on their PC's or phones. Although these services are convenient, they do have their disadvantages. One major disadvantage is that these services can go offline at any time and there would be no way for users to be notified of the outage. This is where this integration will come into play because it will allow users to be notified whether they're using their PC's or phones. Another benefit is that companies like Google Mail (Gmail. who use IMAP for their email services do not support POP3 or SMTP protocps. This makes it difficult for users to use their ISP email accounts with Gmail because they cannot directly access their emails using POP3 or SMTP protocps.
After reviewing the information about Downtime Alert and IMAP by Connect, I have concluded that my recommendation is to integrate them together. The benefits outweigh the cost and risk associated with integrating these two programs together. I know that it would take me some time to fully integrate these two programs together but I believe it would be worth it in the long run because it would benefit many people across the world who rely on email services to stay in contact with others through their computers or phones.
