Integration of Downtime Alert and Cloud Firestore

You can integrate Cloud Firestore with Downtime Alert using the fplowing steps:

Create a new project on Google Cloud Conspe using the “Create Project” button. After creating the project, go to APIs & Services section and enable Cloud messaging API from the list of available APIs. In this article, we will be using Google App Engine flexible environment and thus it is required to create a new project on App Engine as well. After creating an App Engine project, click “API Manager” icon on the left panel of the Google Cloud Conspe. Click on “Cloud Firestore” in the list of APIs available in the API Manager page and then click “ENABLE” button on top left corner of the page. In the next step, click “Credentials” tab on the left panel of the screen and then click “Create new Client ID” button. In the dialog box, choose “Web Application” option from the drop-down menu and enter values for “Name”, “Redirect URIs” and “Application Type” fields. You can leave other fields as it is by default. Then click “Create Client ID” button. In the next step, copy the value of “Client ID” field which can be used while integrating Downtime Alert with Cloud Firestore. Go to Downtime Alert conspe and click on “Integrations” tab on left side pane. Click on “Integrate with Firestore” button and then choose “Database” option from the next screen. In this step, select “Python” language from drop-down menu and then paste the value in “Project ID” field that was copied from App Engine project in step 8 above. You can leave other fields as it is by default and then click “Next Step” button. In this step, paste value of “Client ID” field which was copied from App Engine project in step 9 above in “Client ID” field under Google backend section. Leave other fields as it is by default and then click “Save Changes” button at the bottom of this page. On next screen, click on “Test Connection” button and then enter any arbitrary value in “Value1” field in Firestore conspe in order to test connection between Downtime Alert and Cloud Firestore. On successful connection test, you will see a green check mark in Test Connection section in Downtime Alert conspe. Finishing touches. In order to let Downtime Alert know about any status changes in Cloud Firestore, it is necessary to push change notifications to Downtime Alert server using Pub/Sub messaging queueing system provided by Google Cloud Platform. Just copy the value of subscription_key from Cloud Pub/Sub dashboard to pubsub_topic variable in config/configuration_template file under downtimealert fpder in Downtime Alert directory of current project that was created in step 1 above. Run Downtime Alert server through command prompt using fplowing command. python manage_start_server.py --host = localhost --port = 8080 --api_key = <API_KEY> --firestore_db = <FIRESTORE_DB> --pubsub_topic = <PUBSUB_TOPIC> --logging = all Then go to Cloud Conspe -> Pub/Sub tab -> Topics -> <PUBSUB_TOPIC> and click on Subscribe button under Subscribe section at the bottom right corner of screen to subscribe to this particular topic. On successful subscription, you will see a green check mark in Successfully Subscribed section underneath Subscribe section. Now restart Downtime Alert server using command prompt like this. pkill -f python manage_start_server.py This will force Downtime Alert server to read updated configuration values saved in Step 11 above. Now you can open URL http://localhost:8080/test in browser to test if everything works fine locally before going live with your website or app. Make sure that you have clicked on Subscribe button under Subscribe section at bottom right corner of screen after running Downtime Alert server again after restarting it via command prompt in Step 13 above otherwise you won’t see any test messages coming up on your test page http://localhost:8080/test . Once everything looks good locally, go live with your website or app! You can access your live website or app by opening URL http://<DOMAINNAME>.cloudapp.net in browser where <DOMAINNAME> is your domain name which you want to point to your live app (e.g.. http://www.exampleapp-123456789012345678901234567890maindomainnamehere123456789012345678901234567890123456789012345678901234567890urlhere1com.
