Downtime Alert is a service that helps identify service outages in your DigitalOcean account. When you sign up for Downtime Alert, it will notify you when your droplet is down or has service issues. You can then choose to restart the droplet to respve the problem.
Canny is a monitoring service that allows you to monitor various metrics of your DigitalOcean droplets and servers. It also integrates with Downtime Alert and automatically restarts your Droplet if Downtime Alert detects downtime. It is a more robust monitoring spution than Downtime Alert.
Integration of Downtime Alert and Canny is easy, because they are both services by DigitalOcean. Here’s how to set it up:
Sign up for Canny at https://app.canny.io/signup Create an account on Downtime Alert at https://downtimealert.com/ Add your DigitalOcean token to Canny by going to (https://app.canny.io/my-account/personal)> Settings > Tokens > New Token Create a new alert in Canny and go to the Integrations Tab Under “Service Status”, add the URL https://downtimealert.com/status/v1/check and click “Save Changes” Add dates in which you want automated alerts to be sent under “Alerting” Choose “Cron” for the schedule source and set the cron syntax to 0 0 * * * Click “Save Changes” Set your email address under “Notifications” Make sure “Automate check response” is checked Click “Save Changes” Click on “Alerts” Select the alert that you just created on Step 10 Select “Restart Droplet Automatically” and set it to yes Click “Save Changes” Test your integration by creating a service outage on DigitalOcean in one of your droplets or by deactivating your network interface on any cloud server. In this case, I deactivated my network interface so that my droplet became inaccessible from the internet. Check your email and see if you received an alert from Canny after 5 minutes and another alert if the problem was not respved after 30 minutes. If you did not receive an alert, check the status of your droplet on Downtime Alert and make sure that everything is fine. If everything looks correct, wait for another 30 minutes and see if you receive an alert from Canny. If you still do not receive an alert, double check Canny’s settings on Step 10, and then contact their support team by going to (https://app.canny.io/support. > Contact Support.
