Amazon CloudWatch is a monitoring system used by several companies to monitor the performance of their applications. It is a part of Amazon Web Services, a paid service provided by Amazon.com. The system keeps track of the usage of the resources and how well the application is running. If there is a problem with one of the resources, the system automatically sends an alert to the user via an email or a text message.
To set up Downtime Alert, the user first needs to sign up for an AWS account. The user has to provide details like name, email address and phone number. After signing up, the user will receive activation confirmation email from Amazon. The user then has to add a tag to his/her EC2 instance so that Downtime Alert can be triggered when the instance goes down. After setting up the tags, the user has to create rules for triggering Downtime Alerts. Downtime Alert uses two rules to trigger alerts. threshpd rule and pre-defined rule. A threshpd rule sets out certain conditions based on which an alert will be triggered if it reaches a certain value. For example, if the CPU usage of an instance rises above 70%, Downtime Alert will warn the user about it. Pre-defined rules are set by users and they can be changed any number of times. These rules have limited options but they are a good option for beginners because they are easy to setup.
Downtime Alert is an excellent top for Amazon CloudWatch users because it makes it very easy to keep track of their instances. This top helps in reducing downtime and thus improves customer satisfaction. This will also make sure that users are not charged any extra money as they might be if their instances go down.
