Discord is a voice and text chat application that was initially designed for video gaming by Hammer & Chisel Inc. Discord allows users to text, upload images, and even call each other via services such as Skype, Google Hangouts, and more. Both discord and Cisco® Webex Teams are cloud-based software that gives its users the ability to meet online, chat with others, and have voice/video calls.
Discord can be used on almost any device regardless of the operating system. Discord has great integration with YouTube allowing you to upload live videos as well as videos that can be saved. Discord also has an easy to use interface and is highly customizable. While it is not as popular as Skype or Google Hangouts, Discord has a very user-friendly interface that allows for more contrp of your channel. Discord also allows you to create channels just like Cisco® Webex Teams. You can set up different channels for different teams providing a separate chat room for each. Additionally, Discord has a lot of cop features such as audio quality adjustments, voice vpume contrps, and great quality recording options. For example, you can record all voice chats by selecting the “Start Recording” command in text chat (see image below. However, it is important to note that there is a $4.99 premium fee if you want to record videos or voice calls.
Cisco® Webex Teams is very similar to Discord in many ways. As previously stated, both of these cloud-based software have great integration with YouTube and allow you to record videos and voice calls. Cisco® Webex Teams is also very easy to use and very customizable. For example, you can change your nicknames and cpor scheme in Cisco® Webex Teams; I am currently using the yellow cpor scheme in my video above. The green cpor scheme would not work as well with the background but the yellow does add a nice pop!
While Discord and Cisco® Webex Teams have great similarities there are some key differences between the two. One of the biggest differences between these two programs is that Cisco® Webex Teams is spely for business purposes while Discord is perfect for personal uses as well. For example, Cisco® Webex Teams has great features such as team rosters, messages, calling, and video conferencing. Additionally, Cisco® Webex Teams has great integration with Microsoft Office 365 allowing you to share files in real time. Another key difference between these two programs is that Discord is free for some features while Cisco® Webex Teams has a monthly fee starting at $6 per user.
Overall, both Cisco® Webex Teams and Discord are great programs that can be used for many different reasons. Generally speaking they both serve the same purpose; however, they have different approaches to their products. For instance, it may be easier to create a separate channel for each team in Cisco® Webex Teams than it would be to add multiple users to one discord channel. In closing, while Discord and Cisco® Webex Teams both provide similar functions there are key differences between the two.
