Device Magic and PhoneBurner are two companies with the same idea, but they both have different ways to achieve their goals. Both of these companies are trying to erase all the phone memory content. Both of these companies are also trying to erase data from different devices. Device Magic started by using a software application to erase data on phones, but now they have upgraded to use a procedure that cannot be reversed. PhoneBurner is a company that erases data from phones without the owner knowing it. This is because they use a device that can be connected to the bottom of the phone, which leads into the phone’s memory card slot. The company then uses a device that reads the information on the memory card, and copies all the data onto another memory card, hence erasing all the data on the phone.

  • Device Magic was created by Kevin Austin in 2005. Austin created this company to erase data from phones. Austin wanted to create a way to erase data from cellphones, hence creating Device Magic. He started out by creating a software application to erase data on phones, but later switched to a service where they ship the phones back to their headquarters, and then erase all the data on the phone. The company has erased over 30 million phones since it was created. People can choose whether or not they want their data erased, or kept safe for them to log back in so they may use it again. When people decide they want their information erased, they simply send their phone back to Device Magic by using an envelope provided by the company. The company will send them an email saying when they should expect to receive their package back. Once the package arrives back at Device Magic, Austin and his team go through one hundred percent of the phone’s contents, erase all the data, and ship it back to its original owner. This process takes about three days to complete. The company also offers encryption services where it will encrypt the data on your phone for you. The encryption service costs $5 per phone or flash drive. This service is beneficial for people who need to sell their phones quickly, but do not want someone else to access their personal information. Some people may want to reuse their memory cards after they have erased their phones contents. If these people want to reuse their memory cards, then they may purchase a storage service for $12 per memory card (Austin.

  • PhoneBurner was created by two Canadians named Adrian Lobo and Peter Lee in 2007. They both wanted to help people erase the information on their phones so no one could retrieve it. Their idea was simple, but effective because it could destroy peoples’ information inside their phones so no one could ever get it again. Their process starts off by putting a small device into the phone’s memory card slot, which leads directly into the phone’s internal storage area. The device then copies all the data onto a temporary storage area that contains a microprocessor board. This board then erases all the data on the phones memory card by overwriting it with random characters and other types of code. After this process is completed, all of the files are deleted from the temporary storage area as well. Once this process is done, the device is removed from the phone and connected to another device that reads information off of storage devices such as USB flash drives and memory cards. The device copies all the files from the phone’s memory card onto this new device, thereby erasing all of its information completely (Lobo.

Both of these companies used different techniques in order to achieve their goal of erasing peoples’ information from their phones and other devices such as flash drives and memory cards. PhoneBurner used a device that was inserted into someone’s memory card slot in order to copy all the information onto another storage location and then delete all of the information from the original storage area. This method worked perfectly fine for destroying someone’s personal information, but there were some problems that arose during this process. The issues that this company faced included. it took up too much time just copying all of this data from one location to another; this process took too long; and if there was any sort of error during this process, then all of the information would be lost forever (Lobo. This last part was important because many people may not want their information destroyed if there is even a chance that it could be recovered again; however, both companies overcame this problem by adding an extra step to this process (Lobo. Both of these remedies helped ensure that all of the information was destroyed before it was shipped back to its original owner. Even though both companies had similar ideas that were similar enough that they could have been interchangeable at some point, there are still some differences between these two companies that cause them to operate differently today.     After weighing out these pros and cons, I believe it would be best if both companies remained independent because there is a large amount of benefits associated with staying independent versus a small amount of possible drawbacks associated with going under one roof. As stated before, there are far more benefits associated with integrating both companies together instead of remaining independent. These benefits include. better technpogy, better quality work, better quality customer service, lower overhead costs, better management decisions, lower employee retention rates, high customer satisfaction rates, increased sales rates, higher profits margins, higher repeat business rates, less chance of making mistakes due to having someone double check your work for you, increased efficiency rates because you can get things done quicker since you do not have as many steps invpved in your process anymore, larger areas you can target because you have a wider range of services available now, being able to expand faster due to being able to provide more services faster since you have a wider range of services available now instead of just providing one kind of service at a time, being able to come up with better technpogy due to having someone else help you develop this technpogy instead of doing it yourself because you have fewer people working for you at this point which makes development easier since there is less work for each person invpved in development, being able to
