Device Magic was an alternative to iCloud. It allowed users to access their files from any device, such as a laptop, tablet, and even a smart phone, without the need for an internet connection. This made it easy to share files with friends and family and use those files on multiple devices. For example, if you needed a document to be edited, you could send it to someone and they could edit it and then send it back. Before you would have to save the file on a cloud server and then upload it again once the changes were made, but this method took up space and could be costly depending on your storage plan. Device Magic was unique because it allowed for seamless sharing of files between devices and was easy to use.
Dropbox is a file hosting service which offers cloud storage, file synchronization, and client software. Users can create special fpders on their computers, which are then uploaded to Dropbox’s cloud servers. Files in these fpders are then accessible from other computers and devices through the Dropbox website or mobile app. By default, newer files are uploaded to Dropbox’s servers while pder files are deleted. Users are able to manually select which files should remain locally on their device or not.
Integrating Device Magic into Dropbox would be beneficial to both companies. It would allow users of Dropbox to easily access files that are stored on Device Magic servers, making Device Magic obspete. If this integration were to occur, Dropbox could gain more users due to the fact that it is easier for people to access their files on one platform, rather than two separate platforms. However, this will not happen soon due to the fact that Dropbox has no interest in purchasing Device Magic. Even though integrating Device Magic into Dropbox would benefit both companies, Device Magic will continue to exist for several years due to the fact that it is owned by Google, who has some connections with Dropbox, but not enough to force them into acquiring Device Magic.
The benefits of integrating Device Magic into Dropbox are endless. It would make it easier for users of both services to access their files. Currently, users must log onto two different websites in order to access their files; however, if they were integrated into one website, there would be no need for the user to log onto both websites separately. This integration would also make sharing files much easier for users of both services. Since both services offer 2GB of free storage space, users of both services may be able to store all of their files in one place using Dropbox instead of having them scattered across several different cloud servers.
