  • Deskpro is a microcomputer made by IBM. It was produced in 1981 and the first model was called the IBM 5155. Deskpro was the successor to the IBM PC which was released in August of 1981. Deskpro was the only computer model from IBM to run DOS 3.2 and it had 128k bytes RAM (Random Access Memory. A few models of Deskpro were equipped with a hard disk, but the 5155 model did not come with a hard drive. The 5155 was a low-end model that would be priced at around $1,595.00 when it was released. Deskpro was discontinued in early 1983 when IBM introduced its second generation of personal computers. The 5155 model was the least expensive unit and it could be connected to a printer or monitor. It came with no floppy drive, but it was capable of using one if it was purchased separately. The user would have to load programs into memory from a cassette tape recorder or data from a punched paper tape.

    Deskpro could be connected to a telephone line for automated information through a program called Voice Master.
