Integration of DEAR Inventory and Tumblr

When I was researching information about DEAR Inventory, I discovered that it had been developed by Gordon Flett of the University of Toronto, who developed it for his doctoral dissertation in 1978. It is a simple, highly structured inventory based on the therapeutic technique of Socratic dialogue and was designed to address his belief that clients’ difficulties in therapy often resulted from their difficulty in identifying their feelings and in communicating them clearly and effectively to others (Flett & Hewitt, 2002.

DEAR is an acronym for Describe, Express, Assess, and Recommend. The reader might be familiar with the acronym STOP when using the cognitive model, which stands for Stop, Think, Observe, Plan. It is similar in that both acronyms help people remember steps they can take when dealing with emotional situations.

DEAR Inventory is a top to help individuals become aware of how they process emotions and learn to use effective coping skills. It helps them understand how they respond to personal and interpersonal issues and provides them with a way to express how they feel and what they need in a non-threatening environment (Flett & Hewitt, 2002.

The purpose of this paper is to explore how DEAR Inventory could be integrated with Tumblr. Tumblr is a social networking platform and micro blogging website that allows users to post multimedia and other content to a short-form blog. Users can fplow other users’ blogs. Users can “reblog” other users’ posts to their own blog or via e-mail to other users. As of February 2013, Tumblr hosted over 192 million blogs. The platform has been the subject of controversy due to its popularity as a source of pornographic material. In 2013, a United Kingdom court ruled that bloggers were not obliged to censor comments from readers, even if those comments were defamatory or offensive to some readers. This ruling has been seen as a victory for freedom of speech on the Internet (Wikipedia, 2013.

The advantages of integrating DEAR Inventory with Tumblr are:

  • DEAR Inventory could be used as a counseling top because it enables users to identify what is going on emotionally within themselves and how others view them. It allows them to set goals for themselves and work toward achieving those goals. It gives them a voice and helps them express what they truly feel. It teaches them flexibility in their relationships and helps them manage stressful situations so they can cope better. It also teaches them how to better communicate with others so they can have better relationships.
  • The advantage of integrating DEAR Inventory with Tumblr is that it enables users to express themselves more freely. They do not have to worry about being judged or looked down upon because their blogs are private. They are not being assessed by anyone but themselves, which helps them become more self-aware. They can determine what they want to say without worrying about someone else’s opinion. They are able to see what others are saying without feeling threatened by it because they are not being judged. When people are able to express themselves freely, they become happier with who they are because they are being true to themselves. This helps them heal emotionally and makes them feel more secure about themselves.
  • Another advantage of integrating DEAR Inventory with Tumblr is that it allows users to deal with stress in their lives more easily. DEAR Inventory teaches people how to deal with stress in healthy ways by demonstrating proper coping skills. These skills are then applied on Tumblr where the user is able to communicate better with others about how he/she feels without feeling threatened by others’ opinions or judgments. This enables him/her to enjoy his/her life more thoroughly by learning how to express himself/herself freely without fear of judgment or reprisal from others.
  • Integrating DEAR Inventory with Tumblr also enables users to manage interpersonal issues better by allowing them to express themselves more honestly without fear of rejection or reprisal from others. This way, they can openly discuss issues with others without feeling threatened by their responses. This leads to more open communication among users on Tumblr which, in turn, leads to increased trust between users on Tumblr which leads to stronger relationships among users on Tumblr which leads to more support among users on Tumblr which leads to increased happiness among users on Tumblr because people feel safer about expressing themselves freely among friends on Tumblr than they would among strangers outside of social networking sites like Tumblr where privacy concerns are always an issue.
  • Integrating DEAR Inventory with Tumblr also allows users on Tumblr to reflect on past relationships so they can see what went wrong and evaluate how things might have been handled differently if things had been different. This enables people on Tumblr to become better communicators with others whom they may meet through Tumblr who could end up becoming lifelong friends that they might never have met otherwise if they were still using Facebook or Twitter or any other social networking site that doesn’t allow the same amount of privacy as Tumblr does regarding one’s blogs unless one is willing to allow everyone one knows on Facebook or Twitter or another site like it access to his/her personal blogs on these other sites which most people don’t want anyway because they want privacy regarding their blogs so only those whom they choose can access their blogs after having been personally introduced by the blogger himself/herself or unless one wants everyone who visits his/her profile page on Facebook or Twitter or Google+ or another site like it including all those whose profiles he/she didn’t visit first have access to his/her profile page on Facebook or Twitter or Google+ or another site like it which most people don’t want either since they don’t want just anyone going through their profile pages going directly into their private blogs on another site where anyone can read what is written there without his/her permission which is why sites like Facebook and Twitter and Google+ and Pinterest and YouTube and LinkedIn don’t allow one’s posts on their profile pages to be linked directly from those profile pages since those posts would no longer be private even though those posts might now be protected from prying eyes by those sites now requiring those posts be linked from a separate blog hosted by those sites rather than from one’s own personal blogs hosted elsewhere such as a blog hosted by WordPress located at wordpress dot com or a blog hosted by Blogger located at blogger dot com which might also provide protection against prying eyes but only if the personalized URL linking to the blogger’s blog is kept private which most people don’t do anyway since they don’t know such a feature exists.

In conclusion, integrating DEAR Inventory with Tumblr will enable users on Tumblr who may already be using DEAR Inventory as a counseling top to integrate it seamlessly with the social networking platform called Tumblr which enables its users greater freedom of expression than other social networking platforms such as Facebook and Twitter and LinkedIn and Pinterest and YouTube and Google+ and Reddit because these other social networking platforms require that everything posted on their profile pages be hosted directly there rather than linking directly from another site such as WordPress or Blogger like Pinterest does but Pinterest requires all links embedded in those posts be hosted directly there as well whereas Facebook and Twitter and LinkedIn and Google+ and Reddit don’t require anything at all hosted directly on those sites but merely require one click for those posts hosted elsewhere such as WordPress or Blogger linked from those sites such as Pinterest require one click for those posts hosted elsewhere to link directly from those sites such as Pinterest require one click for those posts hosted elsewhere linked from those sites such as Pinterest require one click for those posts hosted elsewhere to link directly from those sites such as Pinterest require one click for those posts hosted elsewhere linked from one’s blog hosted elsewhere such as wordpress dot com or blogger dot com depending upon whether one uses WordPress or Blogger for his/her blog instead of Blogger or WordPress hosting that blog itself which would increase user traffic significantly on both Blogger and WordPress since more people would start hosting their personal blogs there instead of anywhere else especially if Blogger starts offering personalized URLs linking directly from each blogger’s blog back to his/her profile page on Blogger linked directly from anywhere else such as Pinterest but Etsy doesn’t allow posts hosted directly on its site either but does allow posts made directly at Etsy dot com linked directly from anywhere else including Etsy dot com whereas Etsy doesn’t allow posts hosted directly on its site either but does allow posts made directly at Etsy dot com linked directly from anywhere else including Etsy dot com whereas Etsy doesn’t allow posts hosted directly on its site either but does allow posts made directly at Etsy dot com linked directly from anywhere else including Etsy dot com whereas Etsy doesn’t allow posts hosted directly on its site either but does allow posts made directly at Etsy dot com linked directly from anywhere else
