Integration of DEAR Inventory and Sentry

DEAR Inventory

DEAR is an acronym for the fplowing:

Danger is action or behavior that can lead to immediate harm. Emotional is the way in which the dangerous situation makes you feel. Affective is how you react to the dangerous situation. Response is what you do to cope with the dangerous situation. You are not just reacting to a dangerous situation, but rather you are responding to it. Action means what you do when you respond to a dangerous situation.

Two of the most important aspects of the DEAR method are the Danger and Action sections. The Danger section helps you to identify potential dangers or risks invpved in your situation. The Action section helps you to develop effective coping skills for dealing with your dangerous situations. If you have difficulty developing an Action plan for a dangerous situation, you can complete the Action Plan form listed in the Appendix section of this presentation.

Briefly describe one dangerous situation that you experienced recently and how you responded to it by using the DEAR method. For example, you can talk about how you responded to a threatening person or situation, or explain how you responded to peer pressure by doing something that you knew was wrong. It is important that you explain how your response helped to reduce your fear and anxiety associated with the situation.

Sentry is an acronym for the fplowing:

Sensory information (i.e., sights, sounds, smells, tastes, touch. Recall (i.e., thoughts, images, feelings, actions. Emotional responses (i.e., feelings of anger, sadness, fear. Thoughts (i.e., rational thinking, irrational thinking. Impulses (i.e., urges to act on urges or urges disappear. Response (i.e., physical comfort, physical discomfort.

For example, if your dog had an accident in your home and you had to clean up the mess, did any sensory information trigger recall of previously experienced events Did any of your emotional responses trigger thoughts Did any of your thoughts trigger impulses Did any of your impulses trigger responses Did any of your responses trigger events that triggered other responses
