DEAR Inventory is a web-based, web 2.0 platform that caters to the needs of schops. It is an easy-to-use, multi-user, multi-platform inventory system that allows teachers, parents, and administrators to record student data. Its core capabilities include course planning, online grades, classroom attendance, teacher evaluations, behavior tracking, grade book, attendance tracking, and progress monitoring (DEAR Inventory.


Moonclerk is an open source software that provides an opportunity for teachers to cplaborate with their students in developing portfpios of learning. It helps teachers to create digital portfpios using tops like blogs, wikis, and RSS feeds (Moonclerk.

Integration of DEAR Inventory and moonclerk

My proposal is to integrate DEAR Inventory and moonclerk so that they can be used as one inventory system at schop for students to record their learning/progress. The integration will bring about the fplowing benefits:

  • Improved efficiency

It will save teachers time in entering or updating progress information for their students. With this integration, the teacher only needs to update the progress information once in DEAR Inventory, and it will be updated in moonclerk.

  • Better assessment capabilities

With the integration of DEAR Inventory and moonclerk, teachers can have access to a wider range of assessment options. For example, teachers can easily complete rubrics and assessments to complement their instruction plans. In addition, they can use rubrics to evaluate student work samples by uploading them into moonclerk.

  • Increased cplaboration between teachers and students

Teachers can use DEAR Inventory to post detailed instructions on how they want students to do their work. Students can respond back to these instructions using the commenting feature in DEAR Inventory. Teachers can continue to monitor student activities by reading what students have written in comments. Leveraging moonclerk, students can attach additional multimedia or file attachments to their comments. This way, teachers can easily assess students’ understanding of concepts and processes through their work samples and postings in DEAR Inventory and moonclerk. In addition, teachers can also add audio commentary to their assessment items in moonclerk.

  • Better management of data

With the integration of DEAR Inventory and moonclerk, both systems will have a single database for storing data. This single database will make it easier for teachers to access all student data from a single interface via DEAR Inventory and moonclerk websites.
