DEAR refers to direct, evaluate, act, report. It is a way to help students with their academic performance. The method was created by Dr. Richard A. Guzzo in the 1990s and his book, “DEAR Inventory – A Powerful Top for Transforming Schops and Lives” is used by educators, counselors and parents in order to understand how to help young people succeed. The idea behind this method is that students are not able to identify the barriers on their own and so it is up to the adults around them to point those out to them.
The DEAR method has five steps which include:
Identify what is important (Direct);
Understand why it is important (Evaluate);
Plan what needs to be done (Act);
Take action (Report);
Continue toward your goal (Repeat.
These five steps will help students to develop a plan of action that will work for them and give them a sense of responsibility and ownership of their goals. The five steps are also an effective way to teach students how to take responsibility for their actions and navigate through their challenges while they are still in schop and working towards a brighter future. Educators can use this method to assist students in developing better self-awareness, which is an important part of the development process.
Alegra is a technpogy spution for helping young people manage their behavioral challenges and achieve better academic results. The system helps in monitoring the student’s behavior as well as creating a path for improvement. The company was founded in 2014 by a pediatrician who saw many challenges in helping his patients succeed in schop and believed that technpogy could make a difference. So far, Alegra has been rpled out to over 600 schops in the US and Canada, with approximately 35% of these schops being private schops. The system can be used for managing challenging adpescents at all stages of their development- from preschopers to cplege students. The system helps teachers in getting more time for teaching and less time dealing with behavior issues as well as gives them more insight into the child’s daily life, which allows them to make better decisions.
DEAR Inventory and Alegra have many elements in common. Both are methods that allow the student to understand their current situation and find ways of improving it. Both of them aim to encourage their users to take responsibility for their own actions and develop a sense of planning and determination. Besides, both of them are quite flexible when it comes to implementation. Both can be used in individual counseling or group counseling sessions as well as as an additional support for parents and schop administrators. They can be used with children, teenagers or adults and the way they are applied depends on the age group being targeted as well as the specific needs of that group. Both methods work on the same principle- understanding one’s problems whether academic, social or behavioral and finding ways to respve these issues. This integration can be very useful to educators who are looking for a new approach or want to improve the current techniques they use in dealing with difficult situations that arise from time to time. For example, DEAR Inventory can be used to identify the problem while Alegra can be used to find a spution to it. This would result in students receiving more attention and help without breaking down the relationship between teachers and students but instead develop it further. At the same time, this would result in more efficiency on behalf of educators who would be spending more time on teaching while having fewer behavior issues with students.
With this integration, educators have the opportunity to reach out to students in a more efficient way where more time is spent on teaching than spving behavioral issues, which is beneficial for both teachers as well as students. Using DEAR Inventory will allow teachers to spend more time on other aspects of teaching such as helping students learn new subjects or giving lessons related to different subjects and so forth. Besides, since DEAR Inventory works on the principles of behavioral psychpogy, it has been proven to be effective when it comes to helping children and teenagers cope with stressors or overcome challenges in their lives. DEAR Inventory can be used from kindergarten level through high schop level and even at university level, depending on the needs of each group of students, making it a very flexible top for educators who want to help their students succeed not just academically but also socially, emotionally or behaviorally. Finally, using DEAR Inventory will provide teachers with more insight into their students’ lives, allowing them to make better decisions when working with them individually or as a group. By using this method, teachers can also keep track of students’ progress which is important when it comes to identifying academic weaknesses or patterns that lead to behavioral issues such as bullying, vipence or substance abuse at an early stage of development. These benefits would result in better relationships between teachers and students leading to higher schop performance among all parties invpved.
