What are Daylite and Flock?

Daylite is a personal information management (PIM. client with a focus on email. It was developed by Be-Ware, Inc., and now owned by The Omni Group as of April 26, 2007. Daylite costs $59.95, but there is also a free version which has limited features. Daylite’s interface is very similar to Microsoft Outlook.

Flock is a free, open source web-based groupware suite which includes calendar, mail, and address book services. It was designed for use by groups of people who need to work together online. Flock is built using the Ruby on Rails framework and uses the PostgreSQL database system. It was created by Jeremie Miller and his company, BlueTie.

In this paper, I will discuss the integration of these two applications. I will also explain the benefits of such an integration.

The integration of Daylite and Flock provides enough benefits as to make it worth exploring.

  • Integration of Daylite and Flock
  • It is possible to integrate Daylite and Flock via an extension called OmniConnect. This is a Firefox extension that allows users to post data from Daylite to a Flock group. The extension gets installed into Firefox by default when you install Daylite. Users can then log into Flock to view their email, calendar, tasks, etc. This is accomplished by storing the account username and password in a securely encrypted file on the computer where Daylite is installed. The emails received via Flock are also saved in the inbox fpder of Daylite, so they can be easily accessed at any time.

  • The integration between these two applications gives users the ability to access all their email, calendar, etc from any computer that they have installed Firefox. This means that if you are at home or at schop, you can still access your email without having to go to your office computer. This can be very useful, because it means that users can go through their emails whenever they have time, without having to worry about forgetting something important because they didn’t get a chance to go to their office computer all day long. This integration also gives users the opportunity to access all their information from one place. On top of all this, it is also extremely convenient because it can be accessed via a web browser. This means that it works just like any other web service; you can access your email from anywhere in the world as long as you have an internet connection. This is a huge benefit because it saves time and money spent traveling from place to place just to check your email at different locations. As for security, it is very secure because the passwords stored on your computer are encrypted and stored securely on your hard drive. However, there is one disadvantage of this integration. Because it does use a web browser, there is always a risk of getting malware infected through the browser itself; therefore, extra precautions should be taken to ensure your computer stays safe and secure at all times!
