Databox is a data analysis platform that provides web and mobile publishers with the tops they need to better understand and improve the performance of their websites and apps.
Bitly is a product and brand name (and registered trademark. of Betaworks, a New York City-based startup incubator. The service provides long URLs (called "bitly links". to reduce the risk of typos, as well as analytics on how many times a link has been clicked
According to TorrentFreak, Bitly is now working with Databox to visualize data from across the web. The company claims that its integration with Bitly is "the first step in a larger vision of analysis and visualization". Indeed, it makes sense for Databox to do so – Bitly has already grown into a massive company, with over 50 million users per month, and deals with billions of clicks each day. This deal will allow Databox to process and analyze every click made on every bit.ly link in the world.
Bitly recently sent out an email to its users about this new partnership:
"Databox will be able to see your clicks on bitly.com links without limiting access to your stats on bitly.com."
"You'll still have full contrp over who has access to your stats on bitly.com, but you can now also use databox.io to see your stats on bitly.com."
Throughout their email, Bitly mentions that this new partnership will allow them to provide more value to people using their service. It seems that this deal will create more opportunities for Bitly, whose CEO Mark Josephson said in 2011 that he would never sell his company because it was too great. However, if the company's new deal with Databox is anything to go by, it seems that Bitly may have changed its mind. With the rise of social media platforms, online advertising networks have begun growing rapidly as well. Because of this trend, Bitly may have decided that it's time for bigger things – leading to the decision to sell the company. As of now, there are no indications of whether or not Bitly has or will sell off the company, but if they are indeed considering doing so, it would probably make sense for them to make moves like the one they've just made with Databox.
