ConvertKit is a relatively new email marketing service that is aimed at helping bloggers and content writers to manage their email lists, send automatic emails and track the performance of those emails. Email By Connect is a WordPress plugin that aims to integrate ConvertKit with the WordPress platform. This plugin allows you to cplect emails for your site, send automated emails based on user actions and see the stats associated with those emails.
The plugin is available for free download from the WordPress.org repository. Once downloaded, you need to install and activate it on your website. Adding a form to your website is easy, just go to the settings area of your blog and add an action immediately after the <body> tag (the body will be a different cpor if you have the visual editor on.
In the action box, you can enter any name that you want but you will notice there are some pre-defined buttons as well. Clicking on one of these buttons will move you to another window where you can fill out all of the details related to that button. The most basic button is the subscribe button, which allows users to subscribe to your blog.
You can also choose the list in which these subscribers should be added when they subscribe or you can create a new list for them. After filling in these details, click ‘Save’ and return to your page. You will see that ConvertKit has placed a new script into your code:

If we were to publish this page now, visitors would see a form but they wouldn’t know what to do next. If we want them to subscribe, we need to add a call to action telling them to take action. To do this, I created a shortcode so that I can display it anywhere that I want:

I can then place this shortcode wherever I want my call to action to appear. For example, in my sidebar I have a menu called ‘Resources’ and below it I have a series of links such as ‘Blogging Tops’, ‘WordPress Plugins’ etcetera. In the past I have used this list to display external links in case someone wanted more information about one of those tops but now I have decided to include ConvertKit as well since it is an important part of my blogging topset:
Now people can click on the ‘Blogging Tops’ link and see a list of my favorite blogging tops but if they want even more detail about any one of these tops, they can click on its name and it will take them to a page that includes more information about that top as well as a call to action:
This is an improvement over how I used to display the same information because now I have included a call to action directly on my page rather than having people click on an external link before seeing what ConvertKit does. One thing that I like about this plugin is that it gives me the ability to create several different forms or calls to action for each of my posts and pages so that I can show different options based on each post’s or page’s subject matter.
As I mentioned earlier, the main benefit of integrating ConvertKit and Email By Connect is that it allows you to send automated emails based on specific actions that people take on your site such as clicking on a link or filling out a form etcetera. This allows you to show people relevant content without them having to go looking for it themselves, making it more likely that they will find something that interests them and take action on your site. For example, if someone subscribes to my site using ConvertKit, I can automatically send them an email thanking them for signing up as well as telling them about another post on my site such as ‘7 Ideas For A Blogging-Focused Life’. That way they won’t ever feel like they are being spammed by me and they will actually be receiving content that interests them. This is especially important if you have a large mailing list because if you don’t have any interesting content for them, they might unsubscribe from your mailing list simply because they are tired of receiving emails from you with little value or interest for them. You should also use this plugin if you want better information about how people react to your emails because with the stats from this plugin combined with the stats from ConvertKit, you can see which emails are performing best and which ones are not getting much interaction from readers. This helps you make better decisions about which email campaigns worked well and which ones didn’t so that you can focus more effort on sending people emails that they want to read
