Integration of Firebase Cloud Storage and Netlify

Firebase is a mobile and web application development platform that provides a number of cloud computing services. Firebase offers a set of tops for developers to build apps using their web programming language of choice, including HTML, JavaScript, Swift, Java and other languages. Firebase also offers a number of mobile SDKs for iOS, Android and Unity. It was developed by Andrew Lee and James Tamplin in 2011 and currently has over 1M developers.

Netlify is a web hosting service that simplifies the process of building, deploying and managing websites and web applications. Netlify offers hosting for static websites or JAMstack projects (JavaScript, APIs and Markup. Netlify offers both free and paid plans.

Integration of Firebase Cloud Storage and Netlify

In this part of my article I am going to describe how Firebase Cloud Storage can be integrated with Netlify to host files such as images, PDFs, audio files and more.

To integrate Firebase Cloud Storage with Netlify, you have to create a Netlify app on your Firebase dashboard. To do this you have to click on the “Add app” button in the top right corner of the page.

Once you have clicked the “Add app” button, you will see a screen that looks like this:

On the Add an App screen, you will see two options. “Host your website on Netlify” or “Build a custom app”. To integrate Firebase Cloud Storage with Netlify, you have to choose the option “Build a custom app”. If you choose to build a custom app, you will see a screen similar to this:

You will also notice that there are three tabs on the Add an App screen. Get Started, Deployment and Settings. Select the Deployment tab at the bottom of the screen and then click on the “Add an existing Firebase project” button. This will take you to a page where you can add your project and give it a name. You will notice that there is a box next to the project name box that says “Select an existing Firebase project”. Click on this box and select the project you want to integrate with Netlify. Once you have selected the project, click on the “Confirm” button. Once you have done this, you will see a screen like this:

Once you have completed this step, you will see a screen like this:

You can now see that your project has been added to your project list. Click on your project name to go to the next screen. This screen is known as the “Service Account” screen. On the Service Account screen, click on the “Generate new credentials” button. This will take you to another page where you can generate new credentials for your project. A window will pop up asking you to grant your app access to your Firebase project data. Click on “Allow” when asked if you trust the app to access your data. Once you have allowed access, a text box will appear asking for your service account information. Enter your information into the text box provided and click “Next”. You will be taken to a screen that asks for your service account password and a confirmation password. You must enter both passwords in order to proceed. Once you have done this, click on “Create credentials”. You will now be taken to a screen that looks like this:

Now go back to your Google Plus account (or whatever other email address you used. and open the email from Firebase containing your new credentials. You will see two sets of credentials. one set of credentials with an app identifier (app_id. and one set of credentials with an app secret (appSecret. Copy these credentials and paste them onto your Netlify account page under the “App Credentials” section. There will now be two sets of credentials under “App Credentials”. One set is the new credentials created by Firebase containing both the app secret and app identifier, while the other set contains only your app identifier. To finish integrating Firebase Cloud Storage with Netlify, go back to your Firebase dashboard where you initially created your project and go to the “Storage” tab on the left side of the screen. Under storage, click on “Cloud Functions for Firebase”. If you haven’t programmed anything in Firebase before, you might be confused about what all of these terms mean, so let me explain them:

Firebase is an online service meant for mobile application development that allows developers to create apps without having to worry about server-side code or database management; rather, they can just focus on developing client-side code using JavaScript or their mobile language of choice.

The process to integrate Firebase Cloud Storage and Netlify may seem complicated and intimidating. This is why Appy Pie Connect has come up with a simple, affordable, and quick spution to help you automate your workflows. Click on the button below to begin.
