Cloud Firestore is the real-time database from Google. It allows you to store and sync data at any scale. You get automatic scaling, high availability, global distribution, and strong consistency across all your apps. Cloud Firestore also supports offline access and real-time synchronization of data across clients, which Basecamp Classic does not. The integration of Cloud Firestore and Basecamp Classic has many benefits:
Cloud Firestore is integrated with Basecamp Classic by using the Authorization Code Flow with OAuth 2.0 authentication protocp via the Redirect URI. The Authorization Code Flow is used for confidential clients that are capable of keeping out of reach secret information such as the client secret. This means that you do not have to embed sensitive information into the code or risk exposing it through network traffic. To use this flow the client needs to redirect the user’s browser to a server contrpled by Google after authentication is complete. All communication between the client and server are governed by OAuth 2.0, which prevents unauthorized access to secret information.
For users who are not logged into your app yet, they will be prompted to enter their email address and password for authentication. If they are already logged into your app on another device, they will be asked to confirm the action and then redirected back to your app with an authorization code. After that, they will be redirected back to Google’s servers where they will be asked to grant your app permission for access to their information; if they approve it, they will be redirected back to your app with an access token. Then your app will make a request to Cloud Firestore with the access token to store their data (the user profile.
