That’s it. We are now done with our outline.
Now that we have our outline, we can start writing our article. There are two ways to do this:
Write the entire article in one sitting and then go back and make edits. This is the quicker way, but you will have to fix a lot of grammatical errors later on. Write your article in sections. This is a bit longer process, but you will not have as many grammar errors.
I prefer option 2. Here is how I did it:
Start with an introduction and conclusion (5 minutes)
Read through the outline you created and write down all the points you want to cover. This should take no more than 5 minutes if you know what you want to say.
For example, for my article about ClickMeeting and Product Hunt, I wrote down these points:
Introduction. ClickMeeting? Product Hunt? Integration of ClickMeeting and Product Hunt Benefits of Integration of ClickMeeting and Product Hunt Conclusion
Write your introduction and conclusion (10 minutes)
This should take no more than 10 minutes total. If you have written your introduction and conclusion in your outline, then you can simply copy/paste them into the article.
Now, we are ready to write the body of the article!
Write the first section of your article (20 minutes)
The first time I wrote my article I did it all in one sitting, which means I wrote everything in just 20 minutes. The second time I did it I wrote each section in a separate sitting and took about 30-40 minutes per section.
Start with a topic sentence (this is kind of like the thesis statement; it's what your paragraph is about. It should be short and sweet, so no more than 3 sentences. Then write 3-4 sentences about this topic.
When you’re done, go back and reread your article. Read it out loud to make sure you don’t have any grammatical mistakes. Correct any mistakes that you find, and then move on to the next section!
Here is an example of my first section about integration of ClickMeeting and Product Hunt:
For this section, I wrote 4 paragraphs, but you might have 2 or 5 paragraphs depending on what you want to say. Ideally you would have five or six paragraphs on each section of your article, which means 7-8 total in your entire article. Yes, it takes some time and effort, but you will see that once it’s finished, it will be worth it! You will be able to use this article as a reference for any future article or paper that asks for a similar topic. You can also use this template again for any other presentation or speech that requires you to give an introduction about two things or people.
