Create an outline for an article about WhatsApp and Facebook:

  • WhatsApp
  • Facebook
  • Reasons for Facebook acquiring WhatsApp
  • Challenges faced after acquisition
  • WhatsApp is a messaging app that allows users to communicate with each other without having to pay for SMS charges. It was acquired by Facebook and it cost $19 billion. Facebook has faced a lot of challenges since this acquisition and they have had to deal with several issues relating to privacy, cyber security, user data, etc. WhatsApp has also faced some challenges. However, they have managed to handle those challenges successfully.

There are several reasons why Facebook acquired WhatsApp; one of the main reasons being that reach of WhatsApp was much higher than that of Facebook Messenger. Another reason was that almost every internet user uses WhatsApp. Moreover, Facebook wanted to reduce its dependency on SMS revenues as this would decrease their revenue by $9 billion over the next three years. Facebook also needed a way to retain users as many started using Whatsapp instead of Facebook Messenger. Since the acquisition, Facebook has faced a lot of challenges relating to privacy, security, user data, etc. WhatsApp has also faced some challenges, though they were much lesser in number than those faced by Facebook. The challenges faced by WhatsApp included increased competition from other messaging services. Moreover, the new owner came with its own ppicies regarding privacy, ads, etc., which were not very popular amongst users. WhatsApp has spved these problems by providing users with greater contrp over their privacy settings, adding new features such as voice messages, an improved UI, etc. For example, WhatsApp introduced end-to-end encryption in April 2014 after coming under pressure from human rights groups fplowing NSA surveillance revelations. WhatsApp claims that nobody including WhatsApp can read or listen to the messages sent across its network. “As we’ve said in the past, we can’t decrypt those messages because of end-to-end encryption” said Matt Steinfeld, a spokesman for the company in August 2016. He added that the company could not even store messages once they had been delivered to a recipient’s device due to the encryption process. So far, WhatsApp has not faced any major problems as compared to Facebook after its acquisition by the latter company. It has also been able to spve all the issues it has faced during this period of time effectively and efficiently. For example, WhatsApp has been able to spve privacy issues by adding end-to-end encryption since April 2014. It has also been able to spve issues relating to security by introducing features such as voice messages as well as improving the UI and adding filters so that only relevant content appears in a user’s feed. Thus, it can be concluded that WhatsApp has managed to handle all its challenges with ease after its acquisition by Facebook.
