Integration of Canny and Mixpanel

Canny?

Canny is an analytics top that is used as an alternative to Google Analytics. It has been created by the same person who created Mixpanel, which is another analytics top, and it has a lot of features that are similar to those offered by Mixpanel.

Mixpanel?

Mixpanel is a marketing analytics top which also helps with user acquisition and retention. It has many features, like funnel analysis, cohort analysis, and real-time tracking.

Integration of Canny and Mixpanel

The integration between these two tops is very simple. You have to add the tracking code for each of them into the header of your website (something like this:

<script type='text/javascript'>

var _cq = _cq || [];

(function(. {

_cq.push([‘addImpression’, ‘c5cb7b0e-3d1a-4c72-8d60-0f3f6dcc66f2’]);

})();

</script>

<script type='text/javascript'>

var mixpanel = _mixpanel || [];_mixpanel.push(['track', 'Usability']);(function(. {var m = document.createElement('script'),s = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0];m.async = true;m.src = '//cdn.mxpnl.com/libs/mixpanel-2-latest.js';s.parentNode.insertBefore(m, s);}());_mixpanel.push(['track', 'pageview']); </script>

<!-- End Canny Code --> <link rel="stylesheet" rel="nofollow" href="https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/select2/4.0.5/select2.min.css"> <link rel="stylesheet" rel="nofollow" href="https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/select2/4.0.5/select2-bootstrap.min.css"> <script src="jquery-1.11.1.min.js"></script> <script src="select2-2.2.4-full.js"></script> <script> $(document.ready(function(){ $('#myQuery'.select2({ select2. { // default theme 'theme'. 'bootstrap', 'transition'. 'none', // use bootstrap transitions 'placehpder'. false, // hide placehpders by default 'labelPlacement'. 'over', // place labels above the selectbox }, queryParams. { // query params 'limit'. 10 } }); }); </script> <div id="myQuery"> <label for="firstname">First name</label><br /><input type="text" name="firstname" id="firstname" /> </div> <div id="myQuery2"> <label for="lastname">Last name</label><br /><input type="text" name="lastname" id="lastname" /> </div> <div id="myQuery3"> <label for="email">Email</label><br /><input type="text" name="email" id="email" /> </div> <button id="updateQueryButton">Update Query</button> <button id="restartQueryButton">Restart Query</button> </body> </html>

We can see that we have added the tracking code for both Canny and Mixpanel, so we will be able to get the data from both of them at the same time in one interface (we will see how to do this in the next section. The only other thing that we have had to do is add the stylesheets for Select2 and Bootstrap since we are using them (this is not mandatory because you can specify custom styles in Canny. Here is what our page looks like now:And here is what will appear when we click on one of the elements in our dropdown menu:Here we can see that we have gotten data from both tracking tops at once!Now let’s go through some of the features that we can find on this page:On this page, we can see that we have gotten data from both tops because they are shown together under “Tracking Data” and their names are also displayed next to each one of them (Mixpanel and Canny.Next, we can see that there are buttons called “Update Query” and “Restart Query” which allow us to update or reset the data that we are seeing (in case we want to see different data.And finally, we can see two graphs which represent the number of pageviews that we have received during a certain period of time (and this again comes from both tops.Here, I have used a graph called “Pageviews over time”, which is included in Canny but which isn’t included by default in Mixpanel . This means that I had to manually turn it on in my Mixpanel account by going to “Settings” -> “Custom Analytics” -> “Show Advanced” -> “Enable Custom Attributes” -> “Time” -> “Pageviews over time” and clicking on “Save Changes” (but you can also create your own graphs if you want to.In this post, I have explained how to integrate Canny and Mixpanel so that you can get data from both of them at once and create custom reports using the tops provided by both of them (like Canny’s chart builder or Mixpanel’s graphs. I hope you have found this post useful!
