I cannot even begin to tell you how excited I am to be writing this blog post. The reason for my excitement is simple. Canny and Basecamp Classic. Never before have I seen two applications so perfectly fit together that they deserved their own post on the web. There are a couple of reasons why these two applications work so well together. First, they are both powerful applications in their own right. Second, they have great user interfaces. Finally, and most importantly, they are both made by the same company. Therefore, they go together like peanut butter and jelly.
First, I will discuss integration of Canny and Basecamp Classic. Integration does not mean that Canny and Basecamp Classic share a database. Rather, it means that the two applications work with each other seamlessly. For example, when a new user signs up for Canny, it automatically adds that user to the Basecamp Classic account associated with the Canny account. Another benefit of integration is that when new issues are created in Basecamp Classic, they appear in Canny as well. Furthermore, if new users are added to the Basecamp Classic account, Canny automatically updates their permissions.
Another benefit of integration is that once an issue is closed in Basecamp Classic it is automatically marked as closed in Canny too. This is a huge time saver. If I close an issue in Basecamp Classic and do not update it in Canny, the issue remains open in Canny until I manually close it there as well. This is not a big deal if you only close one or two issues per week but if you close a lot of issues every day, this can really add up!
Finally, integrating Canny with Basecamp Classic allows businesses to use both applications for free. I know that at first glance, this might seem counterintuitive because it costs money to use both applications at the same time. However, many companies end up using both applications anyway so offering a free trial of Canny for up to three months is a smart move on the part of Canny. Moreover, if businesses want to continue using both applications after the trial period ends then it makes sense for them to upgrade to a paid plan for both apps.
