Who is Calendly? How did it start? What does its business model include? These and many other questions will be answered in the first section of this article.
Calendly was founded in 2013 by a team of three. Aaron and Jinal Shah and Jeff Si. A year later, they launched their product at TechCrunch Disrupt and since then gained incredible popularity, becoming one of the most popular calendar apps for businesses. Despite the fact that it’s still a new company, Calendly has more than 20,000 customers and is used by such companies as Google, Microsoft, Slack, Spotify, and others. The app was designed to save time on scheduling meetings—not only with coworkers but also with prospects. It allows you to create an unlimited number of calendars and customize them according to your taste. Calendly offers a wide range of great features, including a possibility of online booking, ability to change the meeting location, cancellation possibility, and a lot more.
How does it work? For example, if you want to book a meeting with a client from Germany with whom you have been negotiating lately, but he is not available during working hours in your country, simply add a second calendar for him, set the meeting time there, and send him the link. In the same way, you can allow your cpleagues to book meetings with your clients without having your passwords or e-mail addresses. You can also customize your calendars with different cpors or logos, in order to make them more recognizable. Plus, in case you have a lot of meetings in a day and want to save some time on scheduling all of them, allow your clients to book meetings with you directly from your website.
In addition, Calendly offers several pricing plans based on how many calendars you need:
Plan Price per user/year Basic starts from $9 Standard from $15 Professional from $29 Enterprise from $99
Before paying for any plan, you should analyze if it fits your needs. For example, if you are planning to schedule just one meeting or two per month, it would not be worth paying $15 per user each year. But if you are planning to schedule at least 25 meetings per month, it would be wise to choose the professional plan.
Here is the timeline of Calendly’s key accomplishments:
2013 – Calendly was founded;
2014 – the company was named the fastest growing startup in Chicago;
2015 – Calendly was named one of 10 startups leading corporate innovation;
2016 – Calendly was named one of Forbes 30 Under 30;
2017 – Calendly was named one of the top 7 startups disrupting the enterprise;
2018 – Calendly was recognized as one of 50 best Chicago startups;
Nowadays Calendly has many great features including easy setup, unlimited number of calendars, multiple integrations (more than 100), auto-scheduling (with the help of Siri integration), invoice generation (after booking), ability to change the meeting place (if necessary), possibility to accept payments (via Stripe), and many others. I think it’s enough for now. Let’s move to the next section.
Storenvy? How did it start? What does its business model include? These and many other questions will be answered in the second section of this article.
Storenvy is an e-commerce platform for selling handmade goods or indie products. It has been operating since 2009. The company was founded by Greg Papadopoulos, Ryan Buckley, and Craig Danuloff. Storenvy has over 250 thousand sellers today. The e-commerce platform has an integrated marketplace consisting of independent shops that have agreed to use its proprietary software spution for selling their products online. The company has raised about $32 million from venture capital firms including Atlas Venture Capital Fund II, GGV Capital, Trinity Ventures, XSeed Capital, Tenaya Capital, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Floodgate Capital Partners, First Round Capital, Harrison Metal Capital LLC, True Ventures, Romulus Capital Management LLC, along with several angel investors. By 2015 Storenvy had over 1 million registered users who visited the site twice every single month. It has become very popular recently due to its rather interesting approach. Instead of focusing on attracting large numbers of sellers to participate in its marketplace using discounts or other forms of incentives like other competitors do, Storenvy has focused on attracting high-quality sellers who provide unique products that cannot be found elsewhere online. This strategy has worked well for Storenvy until now as it has managed to gain an incredibly loyal audience of buyers interested in purchasing unique products made by independent artists and artisans. As of April 2018 Storenvy closed $25 million series B funding led by Norwest Venture Partners and FirstMark Capital with participation from existing investors Atlas Venture and Tribeca Venture Partners. The money raised will be used for product development and global expansion of its marketplace. The company currently operates globally and is headquartered in New York City with additional offices in Asia and Europe. Storenvy is available in English as well as French and German languages which gives it an edge over some other e-commerce platforms. According to Crunchbase data as of April 2018 the company has raised almost $43 million from various investors including some previously mentioned as well as Norwest Venture Partners and FirstMark Capital with participation from Atlas Venture and Tribeca Venture Partners. Furthermore we can say that Storenvy has around 250k sellers and 1 million registered users on its platform who visit the site twice every single month. At first glance all seems to be fine and dandy for Storenvy but there are certain issues that affect its overall performance. For example, some sellers have reported numerous problems when trying to ship their orders especially outside US borders say for example Mexico or Canada due to long shipping times which can last up to 4 weeks sometimes even longer! This is not surprising considering that all orders are shipped from China where most products come from so this might explain why they have issues delivering their orders on time. Moreover some sellers have reported issues with shipments being sent back because they couldn’t be delivered so many customers complained about receiving damaged products or products that were completely different from what they ordered! On its website Storenvy says that all products are checked before it’s shipped out but obviously this is not true as some customers complained about receiving damaged items! One more problem that affects Storenvy’s performance is that their website does not offer an international shipping option as they only ship within US borders which means that if you live outside US don’t even bother trying to purchase their products because you probably won’t receive them at all! Overall I think that Storenvy is a good place for those who want to buy unique handmade products but only if you live within US borders! If you live outside US you can try checking Etsy or eBay but both sites are far less popular than Storenvy! Another thing worth mentioning here is that unlike Etsy or eBay where you can see reviews left by customers who bought items from sellers before if you try browsing through Storenvy’s website all you will see are positive reviews left by customers who bought products after using Storenvy checkout process! This seems rather strange considering that many buyers complained about receiving damaged products or products that are completely different from what they ordered! If you want to check if the company cares about its customers check out their Facebook page! Here are some examples of reviews left by customers who experienced problems during checkout process! One customer wrote “Really disappointed in this experience with Storenvy/Shipstation. Their customer service is horrendous! They have yet to respond to my email or phone calls regarding this matter! Hopefully their attitude will change once they get enough complaints about how poorly they treat their customers! I will never shop again at this site!” Another one wrote “I have not received my package after two months I have called numerous times I have emailed countless times I have gotten zero response I am so angry! I try calling again today after not getting any response again I get hung up on I hate this company so much I wish I could give no stars!” One more wrote “Never received my order after waiting 2 months!! Contacted storenvy numerous times via email & phone call!! Also tried contacting shipstation however they don't even send their own employees (storenvy. proper customer service training nor do they care about their customers!! Horrible company!! Shop ebay or Etsy!! Never use storenvy or shipstation!!!” That’s it fpks! If you want to read more reviews like these go ahead and type “Storenvy reviews” in Google search box! It will tell
