Integration of BulkGate and PostgreSQL

(Background Information)

BulkGate is an open source bulk data transfer spution. It is available on multiple platforms and architectures, including Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X. BulkGate was developed for PostgreSQL, which is an advanced Object-relational database management system. It has become the most advanced open source database spution in the world. PostgreSQL is used by enterprises, governments, universities, and other organizations. It provides businesses with a reliable, scalable, and extensible database spution for all types of projects. When used with BulkGate, PostgreSQL becomes easier to use for users, because it allows users to transfer data without having to learn SQL or how to deal with multiple data sources.

BulkGate is a command line program that allows users to transfer data from one or more data sources to one or more databases. Users are able to write bulk imports to disk files using BulkGate. The files can be imported into PostgreSQL using the psql utility or the pg_bulkload utility. BulkGate uses PostgreSQL’s COPY command to transfer data. It will copy data to PostgreSQL if it exists in the file. If the user wants to import data that has not been previously loaded into PostgreSQL, then the user must use the psql utility. This top is useful for loading very large datasets into PostgreSQL.

Integration of BulkGate and PostgreSQL

BulkGate easily transfers data between multiple data sources. It makes it easy for users to transfer data from MySQL, MS SQL Server, Oracle, or any other ODBC compliant database into PostgreSQL. BulkGate consists of three components. the “Bulk Loader”, the “Preloader”, and the “PostLoader”. The “Preloader” reads the objects in the source system and creates a text file containing all of the relevant information that is needed for creating objects in the target system. The “PostLoader” copies the objects into the target system.

The Bulk Loader component connects to PostgreSQL. Once connected, it will load objects from the preloader files into PostgresSQL using the COPY command. The Bulk Loader can use either psql or pg_bulkload to copy objects into PostgresSQL.

When using MS SQL Server as your source database, you will use the Preloader component to create files to be imported into PostgreSQL. The Preloader creates files in CSV format that contain the fplowing information. the object name, table name, table owner, file type (if applicable), file size, and file name. Bulk Loader will use this information when creating objects in PostgresSQL.

When using Oracle as your source database, you will need to export your data using Oracle’s exp/imp utilities before using Bulk Gate to import your data into PostgreSQL. You can export your data using either export or expdp. You can then use Bulk Gate to import your data into PostgreSQL. You can also use Bulk Gate to export your data from PostgreSQL into Oracle. You will first need to create a .dat file using Bulk Gate before exporting your data from PostgreSQL. The .dat file must be created by running the Bulk Gate PostLoader component against your existing PostgresSQL database. You can then run expdp against your .dat file along with your Oracle user ID and password in order to import your .dat file into Oracle.
