BulkGate is an open source system that allows a user to submit multiple tasks in parallel to a high performance computing system. It has been designed for use with the Condor batch processing system. BulkGate allows users to submit jobs and provides feedback on the status of those jobs so that the user can determine if there are any errors in their submission.
PDF4me is an extension of the open source Flexible Image Transport System (FITS. standard. A FITS file contains images from scientific instruments and is used in astronomy and other areas of observational science. PDF4me extends this standard by allowing the inclusion of multiple files as well as by adding new functionality such as annotations, links, and embedding content from other sources.
PDF4me provides a mechanism for scientific researchers to communicate with each other by providing space to include references to previous studies, and space to provide explanations of their methods. This will allow researchers to build off of each others work, rather than having to start completely from scratch when conducting a new study. This promotes cplaboration between researchers, which often leads to better results as they can test each other's ideas and make suggestions that may have otherwise gone unnoticed.
PDF4me also provides researchers with a way to promote their work. Because the images and data that are included in the FITS file can be incorporated into a PDF document, it is possible for a researcher to send the PDF file to other researchers or journals for publication. This allows them to easily show the results of their research without having to convert their data into another format, potentially saving time for both themselves and for the person who is reviewing their work. Having the ability to include links to supplemental information such as figures, tables, or an online version of the article also allows more detailed information about the results to be included in the paper without adding excessive length to the paper itself.
In addition to creating the files needed for distribution of research results, PDF4me allows users to annotate those files in order to add additional information or clarification. For example, a scientist may include a note explaining why certain results were obtained or what steps were taken during their research that led them to those results. It is also possible to embed other documents within the PDF file, meaning that a researcher could include text from his notes, or even add an image of a diagram or graph directly within the PDF file. These features allow users to include every piece of relevant information that they would like in their report in such a way that it is easy for others to find and read.
The ability for scientists to submit multiple jobs at once allows them to receive more feedback on the progress of their experiments more quickly. Instead of having to wait until all of their experiments are completed before receiving any output, they can receive output sooner if one experiment is completed sooner than another (or if one experiment fails. They can then use that output as part of the next round of experiments in order to refine their experiment design and/or get more accurate results than would have been possible if they had simply waited for all of their experiments to complete before analyzing them. While this process is somewhat cumbersome when done manually, BulkGate makes it easier to automate this process by submitting many jobs at once and getting back results in batches rather than individually. This reduces the chance that changes made to one experiment design will affect another experiment design and helps researchers focus on refining experiments and gathering more data rather than worrying about how much time has passed since their last experiment finished running.
In addition to helping researchers gather data more efficiently, BulkGate also helps them avoid errors in their work. Before BulkGate was implemented, scientists would have to wait until all of their experiments were finished before looking through the results and determining if any adjustments needed to be made. If they happened upon an error at this point in the process, they would have to start all over again with an entirely new set of experiments after duplicating the failed experiment in order to figure out what went wrong. However, because BulkGate allows researchers to pick up where they left off after discovering an error in their initial experiments, they are able to save time by not having to repeat experiments unnecessarily while trying to identify the error.
In summary, BulkGate and PDF4me have been integrated with each other in order to provide researchers with a way for communicating detailed results from their experiments in a quick and easily-digestible form. The current implementation increases efficiency by allowing users submit multiple jobs at once instead of waiting for each job individually, reducing the amount of time spent waiting for all jobs to finish before analyzing them and increasing efficiency in general by allowing users do this analysis concurrently with creating new experiments for further experimentation. This allows them to receive quicker feedback on their experiments and enables them to refine those experiments faster without having to worry about how much time has passed since their last experiment was run. This increased efficiency will not only save them time, but also increase accuracy by allowing them to create new experiments based on previous ones before they have finished running instead of having to select different sets of parameters each time they want to try something different. It will also help increase cplaboration between different scientists who may have discovered similar problems with their experimental processes over time by enabling them to cross-reference each others work in order to establish which parts of the process may need adjusting or refining.
