In April 2014, Braintree announced a partnership with BitPay, a Bitcoin processing service. Through this agreement, the companies hope to make it easier for merchants to accept Bitcoin as a form of payment from their customers. This partnership is still relatively new, but it shows promise for increasing consumer adoption of cryptocurrency. If merchants begin accepting Bitcoin for all transactions - whether they are one time purchases or subscriptions - more people will adopt Bitcoin as a legitimate form of payment. This will lead to more merchant adoption and more consumer use. As more people use Bitcoin for day to day transactions, its value will continue to rise as it becomes more easily accessible across more platforms. In the future, Bitcoin’s widespread adoption will lead to more widespread awareness of cryptocurrency as a whpe, which will lead to even greater levels of adoption. By using Braintree and Bitly together to facilitate Bitcoin transactions, merchants have a great opportunity to gain a new audience of consumers while increasing their own revenue streams.
Merchants stand to benefit from a variety of different opportunities by integrating Bitcoin into their Braintree accounts. Many merchants currently use Bitly as a way to shorten URLs for their marketing campaigns, making the integration even more seamless. Additionally, consumers like the fact that Bitcoin can be used as an alternative form of payment for many different types of transactions such as credit card payments or PayPal payments (many individuals believe that using PayPal is actually safer than using a credit card. Also, since Bitcoin requires users to enter their personal information only once for each transaction (instead of at every store they shop at), consumers like that they can remain anonymous when paying with Bitcoin. The bottom line is that consumers like the convenience and security that comes with using Bitcoin over other forms of payment. By integrating BitPay into its platform, Braintree has made it even easier for merchants to capitalize on this trend among consumers. Additionally, this integration makes it easier for merchants to accept Bitcoin as a form of payment through any platform they may already be utilizing such as Wordpress or Shopify. This conversion would not have been possible before this agreement took place. Now that merchants can utilize their existing platforms with Braintree and BitPay together, there is no reason why they should not consider accepting Bitcoin as a form of payment immediately.
