Basin is a free and open source software that lets you write notes, keep a journal and take notes online. It is desktop application and written in Python. It stores notes in OneNote notebooks, which are stored in OneDrive cloud storage. Basin also lets you export your notes to different formats like PDF, markdown and HTML. It lets you create multiple notebooks.
OneNote is a note taking service owned by Microsoft. It is available on Windows, Android, Mac OSX and iOS. It lets you create different sections within a notebook and store files, photos, audio and videos in each section. It is integrated with Office 365 and Microsoft Cortana. OneNote is not free software but it comes with free Office 365 subscription.
Basin lets you import existing OneNote notebooks into its interface by just one click. It imports the notebook as a new notebook under the "Basin" section. You can then add other notebooks by clicking on "+" button at the top left corner or by using "Create new notebook" option. The integration of these two software is seamless. You can edit notes from OneNote in the same page of your browser where you created it in Basin. You can also use Basin as your default editor for OneNote Online files. In OneNote Online, you can select "Edit in Basin" option from the save option in the menu bar. If you have a OneDrive account, you can access your notes from any device as long as it has internet connection.
Easy synchronization between devices. In OneNote, you can sync your notes with your other devices by using Microsoft account. But if you want to sync your notes with another OneNote user's account, you need to use SharePoint server to store your notes. This is not useful when you want to use it with another person who does not use Microsoft products or services. In such cases using Basin will let you sync your notes with other person's account in any device in seconds. You just need to provide your note's web address to him/her to sync it with his/her device automatically.
No need for third party tools. There are many third party applications available on the web that lets you sync your notes between different accounts and devices. But they cost money and their performance might not be very good as compared to Basin. Also most of the time they are not updated frequently which means they might not work properly sometimes. With Basin, there is no need for third party tools because it does everything that these third party tools do, all for free.
Open source. The major thing about Basin is that it is open source which means everyone has access to the source code of this software and can modify it as per their requirements. If any bug gets detected, anyone can fix it in its repository and anyone who wants to use it can download the updated version of this software from its repository. This ensures that this software is bug free and more useful for users than any other software out there because thousands of developers are looking at it every day and trying to make improvements to it so that it becomes more useful for users and ultimately more popular among people using Linux operating system.
With the rise in popularity of Linux, it has become essential for students and professionals to learn Linux because most of the jobs require some knowledge of Linux operating system. On the other hand learning Linux takes a lot of time for students who are busy with their schooling and working part-time jobs at the same time. So learning Linux should be made easier for students so that they do not spend too much time on learning something that would help them in their future careers. Learning Linux should be made fun so that students would like to learn more about Linux operating system rather than getting bored of learning something new which they think is useless to them at present time. That is why integrating different applications like Basin along side OneNote makes learning Linux easier for students who use Windows operating system and do not want to leave their comfort zone when learning something new. This also helps students learn more about Linux operating system without leaving their comfort zone like they learn about different applications on Linux through online tutorials, forums and tutorials instead of going to classes to learn about them or attending courses on these topics in universities which again would involve a lot of time investment on their part. This integration of different applications like Basin along side OneNote also makes learning Linux more fun for students because they get to learn new stuff which they can use daily in their future careers like using OneNote to take quick notes during meetings or using Basin as their default editor for OneNote Online files which helps them save time and become more productive than before because they do not have to switch between applications constantly while editing documents or taking quick notes during meetings or lectures where they need to take quick notes quickly to remember things later or while writing articles where they want to write down different points separately before writing an article itself without losing track from main point which helps them write articles faster than before which ultimately saves them time so that they can focus more on their studies rather than having some other editor installed on their machines which they have switch between constantly while writing articles or preparing assignments etc.
