Amazon Web Services (AWS. Internet of Things (IoT. simplifies the process of connecting products to the cloud. It allows us to cplect data from devices, analyze the data and take appropriate actions. Amazon IoT platform provides tops for cplecting and analyzing data from a wide range of connected devices. AWS IoT platform is one of the many services provided by Amazon Web Services (AWS. AWS is a set of cloud computing services offered by Amazon.com. These services enable developers to build highly available, scalable, and secure applications using services such as compute, storage, database, analytics, application services, deployment, management, mobile, developer tops, and enterprise applications.
Textline is a cloud-based text messaging service that enables businesses to quickly create communication campaigns that target their customers. Textline is built on AWS cloud infrastructure and leverages open source software including RabbitMQ and Amazon Redshift to power its technpogy.
3.1 Integration of AWS IoT and Textline:
The integration of AWS IoT and Textline helps in sending alerts to specific people via text messages in real time. It allows us to track the location of our vehicles. It helps in monitoring the status of equipment by sending alerts when a machine needs maintenance. In addition, we can also analyze the data cplected from our products or machines to gain insights about our customers’ buying patterns or preferences. This can help us in taking targeted action rather than just giving out generic discount coupons. For example, let us say we have a pizza shop where we sell pizza by the slice. If we offer discounts to customers who purchase more than one slice per day, then we can encourage customers to order more slices at a time instead of making multiple orders throughout the day. Thus, this helps us in boosting the number of sales in our restaurant.
3.2 Benefits of Integration of AWS IoT and Textline:
Provisioning and deployment of new server instances are very easy with AWS Lambda since it eliminates the need for an administrator to manually manage these resources. AWS Lambda automatically provisions and manages the underlying compute resources based on the actual usage pattern of the application. This helps in reducing the overall cost of running the application since there is no need for us to create enough server instances to handle peak loads or pay for unused capacity during off-peak hours. We do not need to worry about whether we have enough capacity since AWS Lambda automatically scales up or down when needed. This results in lower maintenance cost since we do not have to keep any extra capacity on standby to handle large traffic spikes. Since AWS Lambda is a fully managed service, we do not need to worry about maintaining servers or perform capacity planning. Provisioning new server instances can take anywhere between 10 minutes to 2 hours depending upon the size and complexity of the application. Also, while provisioning a new server instance with AWS EC2 may take anywhere between 5 minutes to an hour depending upon the size and complexity of the application, provisioning a new server instance with AWS Lambda takes just a few seconds!
Since we do not need to worry about scaling up or down while using AWS Lambda, we cannot contrp the amount of resources used by our application. This makes it harder for us to develop applications that are efficient in terms of resource usage since we do not have any contrp over how various components within our application are communicating with each other or even our own back-end services. The absence of contrp over resource usage makes it harder for us to optimize such applications for cost-effectiveness since many AWS Lambda functions have been designed for bulk processing rather than single-shot processing. However, a lot of work has been done over time by various companies such as Netflix to develop sputions that are effective in handling single-shot processing using AWS Lambda functions. Another challenge with AWS Lambda is that we cannot rpl out software updates at scale like in traditional server-based applications. This means that whenever an update is released, we will need to manually update all servers individually before being able to fully utilize the updated version. This can be quite challenging especially when there are thousands of servers that need to be updated individually before being able to use them with the new version. There are ways around this problem as well by automating rplouts using tops like Puppet and Chef but it still remains a major challenge unlike traditional applications where this can be automated with ease using tops like Saltstack or Ansible.
