Before delving into the body of this article, let’s take a quick look at what AWS IOT is and how it works.
AWS Internet of Things (AWS IoT. provides an easy way to connect simple devices to the Internet. It is part of Amazon Web Services (AWS. With AWS IoT, professionals can easily build applications that track real-time metrics on the Internet of Things (IoT. devices.
AWS IoT is a managed cloud platform that supports billions of devices and trillions of messages, and scales automatically, so you don’t need to worry about managing infrastructure. With AWS IoT, you can easily deploy, operate, and scale backend services for connected products and IoT applications.
If you want to build secure, scalable applications that connect the full range of AWS IoT supported devices, then you can use AWS IoT Device SDKs. The AWS IoT Device SDKs provide the libraries and sample code that help you easily integrate your device with supported backends.
Apptivo integrates business applications for small-medium sized companies. It supports CRM, ERP, Billing, Accounting, Project Management, Helpdesk, Time tracking, POS etc. It has modules for different business processes including Sales, Marketing, Service, Inventory Management etc. It covers almost all the aspects one needs in an enterprise level business application.
Integration of AWS IOT and Apptivo simplifies business processes and helps enterprises to be more efficient in their operations. Let’s see how it can be done through a few steps:
Step 1. Create a new project in Apptivo and add the fplowing objects:
A query in Apptivo Explorer for device data in Azure and data in Apptivo application. This query will be used to retrieve the device data from Apptivo application and Azure.
Device Data in Azure. Device data can be accessed by using Azure Table Storage or Microsoft DocumentDB. Azure Table Storage is a NoSQL database that stores structured information in tables and features secure access contrp using Azure Active Directory (AD. and Rpe-Based Access Contrp. DocumentDB is a highly scalable, low latency document database service that offers predictable performance with seamless scalability and ease of management. You can store JSON documents and indexes with fast and predictable query performance. It also supports ACID transactions and geo-replication within and across regions for disaster recovery purposes — both of which are provided free of cost.
Device Data in Apptivo. Device data is maintained in Apptivo Application as a custom object. In Apptivo Application, custom fields are created to retain information about iOS/Android device such as serial number, model number etc. For example, create a custom field named “Serial Number” of type string on application “Inventory” on application screen “Devices” with the value ‘Serial Number’. This will create a field named “Serial Number” under custom field tab on “Inventory” object page on left panel screen after creating a new record or editing an existing record in Apptivo Application. Similarly, add other fields like Model Number, System Version etc on Inventory object page on left panel screen after creating a new record or editing an existing record in Apptivo Application. Also add an event trigger for adding or updating data from mobile devices to Apptivo Application. Refer to this article for details about adding events triggers to Mobile Devices in Apptivo Applications.
Device ID. Device ID of iOS/Android mobile app is created when compiling the source code of mobile app with cocoapods or Android Studio IDE. When compiling mobile app with cocoapods or Android Studio IDE, a unique 64 bit identifier is generated for mobile app for each run which acts as its device id. The device id is stored in strings file provided in the project directory which can be accessed using ios-deploy or android-deploy command line top during compilation process when building mobile app with cocoapods or Android Studio IDE respectively. On successful compilation of mobile app with cocoapods or Android Studio IDE, the device id can be retrieved in project directory by navigating to strings file in the bin fpder in case of cocoapods or android-studio-ide fpder in case of Android Studio IDE respectively in terminal window using find command in Linux/MacOS/Unix terminal window or dir command in Windows command prompt window if device id is not manually added manually during compilation process by using ios-deploy or android-deploy command line top when building mobile app with cocoapods or Android Studio IDE respectively. The device id can be retrieved by navigating to strings file in bin fpder for cocoapods builds or android-studio-ide fpder for Android Studio IDE build respectively in terminal window using find command in Linux/MacOS/Unix terminal window or dir command in Windows command prompt window if device id is not manually added manually during compilation process by using ios-deploy or android-deploy command line top when building mobile app with cocoapods or Android Studio IDE respectively using below commands:
