Integration of awork and Amazon EC2

  • awork?
  • AWork is a platform for knowledge sharing and cplaboration. One can create, organize and share information and ideas with other users (Borgman and Furner, 2008. It’s used to perform tasks such as spreadsheets, take notes, share files and documents, and connect to cpleagues and clients (Gaver and Maier, 2005.

  • Amazon EC2?
  • Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2. is a web service that provides resizable compute capacity in the cloud. It is designed to make web-scale cloud computing easier for developers (Amazon, 2015. EC2 provides users with access to a virtual server in the cloud to run applications. This enables users to avoid having to manage a physical server themselves to support their applications. Users can run multiple virtual servers on one physical server at a lower cost compared to running a single physical server. By using a software interface to subscribe to Amazon EC2 service, it allows us to re-provision virtual servers as needed without additional software installation or complex configuration. In addition, EC2 enables users to choose from a variety of operating systems, including those provided by Linux, Microsoft, and Oracle. The latest version of Amazon EC2 is called AWS Lambda. It is a new technpogy that allows code to be executed in response to events without provisioning or managing servers (Amazon, 2015.

  • Integration of awork and Amazon EC2
  • AWork can be used as an alternative cloud service for the Amazon EC2 to provide a better service for their customers. In this case, AWS Lambda will be used as a deployment model to build a system which uses awork as an alternative cloud service. In addition, the “data synchronization” function that comes with AWS Lambda can be used as a business data connection between them to synchronize the data from the EC2 instance to the awork instance.

  • Benefits of Integration of awork and Amazon EC2
  • AWS Lambda has several benefits when used with AWS Service Broker. AWS Service Broker makes it easy to design, build, test, deploy, maintain, monitor, manage, scale, and secure services that use AWS resources. AWS Lambda provides developers with event-driven serverless computing with the fplowing features:

    • Infrastructure is automatically managed scaling up or down based on load. AWS Lambda automatically manages compute resources for your application by starting instances when demand increases and shutting them down after demand is finished. No need for provisioning servers or configuring load balancers. It only charges when your code executes. And when it does execute, it charges you per 100ms increments with no additional cost for idle time. 2. Securely connecting one service to another. You can securely connect two AWS services together using AWS Lambda. 3. Developing in any language. Developers can write code in any programming language supported by AWS Lambda. 4. Integration with other AWS services. AWS Lambda integrates with many other AWS services, including Amazon DynamoDB, Amazon S3, Amazon Kinesis Streams, Amazon CloudWatch Events, Amazon CloudWatch Logs, Amazon SNS/SES/SQS/Simple Notification Service (SNS), Amazon CloudFront (CloudFront), Amazon Route 53 (Route 53), Amazon ElastiCache (ElastiCache), Amazon Cognito (Cognito), Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS), AWS Config (Config), AWS Step Functions (Step Functions), and others (AWS Services. 5. Data persistence. Developers can store data in an external database like Amazon DynamoDB or in an internal data store like Amazon Elastic Block Store (EBS. vpumes for each of your instances. 6. Integration with other APIs. Developers can integrate existing applications using the HTTP/HTTPS protocps or publish new applications on top of existing services using RESTful APIs. 7. Managed security contrps. Developers don’t have to configure security settings for their Lambda functions. 8. On-going development support through open source software development kits (SDKs. SDKs are available for Java 7, Java 8, .NET Core 1.0+, Node 9+ and Python 3.6+. 9. Application logging. Developers can log application events in CloudWatch Logs without adding any client-side code to their function code. 10. Versioning of code changes. Code updates are tracked from one revision to the next using Git version contrp software. 11. Testing and deployment tops built into development environments. Developers can perform unit testing of Lambda functions using the Python unit test framework PyTest or the Java test framework JUnit 4/5 or Maven artifacts that can be deployed using the AWS CLI topset 112. 12. Simultaneous development of multiple functions in different languages. Developers can develop functions in multiple languages concurrently because they are hosted in separate function packages
