It was founded in 2001 by Ben Chestnut who developed the service while he was still a student at the University of Georgia. The company was originally called “The List” and was renamed to AWeber Communications in 2002. Ben Chestnut and his business partner Dan Kurzius both graduated from the University of Georgia in 2000 and moved to Denver, Cporado to develop the service.

The site also allows users to share pictures, videos, and other forms of media content through its “Media Player” service. Sina Weibo users can also subscribe to other users and be subscribed to by others. Users can send private messages to one another if both parties have each other added as contacts; this feature is similar to WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger. Users can also group chat with up to 100 people at a time in a chatroom-like setting.
