Arthur Online is an online system designed by the Office of the Provost to be used by all students. It is a centralized place where students can find out about the Dartmouth experience. Arthur Online contains information for both prospective and current students, as well as faculty and staff. In addition, it includes features such as listservs to communicate with groups of specific students and administrators, virtual tours, and a calendar of events.
LinkedIn is a website that allows users to create profiles and connect with other users. Users can post information on their profiles so that prospective employers can see what they have done in the past. This site is mainly used for career purposes, but it can also be used at schop. Students can use the site to make connections with other users who share similar interests. They can then use these connections to improve their social life and network outside of campus.
Although Arthur Online and LinkedIn are two different websites, they are very similar. Both sites allow users to create profiles with information about themselves, post pictures, and connect with others. The only major difference between the two is that Arthur Online allows users to sign up for listservs and view events on a calendar while LinkedIn users are not able to do this. However, since both sites serve similar purposes, it might be helpful if there were a way to connect them together.
In order to connect these two websites, we could create a feature that allows members of a listserv to create a group on LinkedIn based on the listserv’s topic. This would allow those who are members of the listserv to get in touch with each other outside of Dartmouth, which is something that currently cannot be done. By creating a LinkedIn group for each listserv, users will be able to connect with people who share similar interests outside of Dartmouth.
Integrating Arthur Online and LinkedIn will help both students and administrators alike. For students, integrating the two websites will help make connections between the two websites easier, thus making it easier for them to reach out to each other. For administrators, integrating these sites will mean less work for them as they will have one website for all student-related information. Instead of having to send emails, they will only have to update one site. Finally, integrating Arthur Online and LinkedIn will make it easier for students who are interested in going to schop at Dartmouth because they will be able to access information about the schop without leaving home.
In conclusion, I believe that integrating Arthur Online and LinkedIn would benefit both the students and administrators at Dartmouth greatly. Since the two websites already serve similar purposes it makes sense to connect them together in order to increase the usefulness of both sites. By connecting Arthur Online and LinkedIn we will be able to create groups on LinkedIn based on listserv topics; this feature would allow students to contact each other outside of Dartmouth which is something that currently cannot be done. As it stands right now, students can only use these sites individually which means that there is no way for them to communicate with each other outside of Dartmouth unless they use email. Integrating the two websites would allow students to use both sites at once and would make them more efficient than if they were used separately.
