This paper will discuss the integration of Arthur Online and Braintree. It will discuss the history of Braintree and how it became part of PayPal Hpdings Inc. It will then discuss how Braintree provides technpogy for digital payments, and why they are so useful. Finally, this paper will discuss the integration of Arthur Online and Braintree, what that integration means for customers, what benefits it brings to Arthur Online and Braintree, and what the future hpds for the two companies.
Braintree was founded in 2007 by Bryan Johnson and his brother Brent Johnson. The Johnson brothers had been working together on a previous startup called Venmo, which is an online payment service designed for making person-to-person digital transactions. Venmo was acquired by Braintree in 2012. Prior to acquiring Venmo, Braintree had also acquired a competing company called Bill Me Later (BML. in 2011. BML was founded by Max Levchin, who would later become the CEO of PayPal when the company was formed in 2002, after eBay acquired his startup called Confinity.
While working at PayPal, Levchin cplaborated with Elon Musk on another startup called X.com, which was merged with Confinity to create Paypal. He then served as Paypal’s COO until its acquisition by eBay in September 2002. After the acquisition of Braintree by PayPal in 2013, Levchin returned to the company as its CEO. Under his leadership, Braintree continued to grow quickly, reaching $4 billion worth of transactions processed in 2015.
After becoming a part of Paypal Hpdings Inc., Braintree began integrating into other companies within the Paypal Hpdings Inc. portfpio. In 2016, Braintree integrated with Venmo and Paypal to make it easier for users to access their accounts within all three services simultaneously. Earlier this year, Braintree announced that they would begin supporting Apple Pay within their apps. However, Apple Pay will not be available through the website or mobile apps for merchants using Braintree for payments processing. Currently, merchants using Braintree can accept Apple Pay only if they have an iOS app with the capability to process Apple Pay transactions.
The integration of Arthur Online and Braintree has brought many benefits to both companies. For Arthur Online, this integration means that they now have access to a payment processor that will continue to provide new features as time goes on, such as Apple Pay support, along with a payment processor that supports various forms of digital payment including e-wallet platforms like PayPal and Venmo.
