  • The first and foremost step to integrate Appy Pie Chatbot and Microsoft Exchange is first of all logging into the Microsoft Exchange with an administrator account.

    In order to integrate Appy Pie Chatbot and Microsoft Exchange, you need to know the type of account that you are using for the integration. There are mainly four types of accounts for which you would want to integrate Appy Pie Chatbot and Microsoft Exchange:

    • Office 365 Enterprise
    • Office 365 Education
    • Outlook.com

    Now, let’s start integrating Appy Pie Chatbot and Microsoft Exchange on the steps mentioned below:

    Step 1. First of all, go to the newly launched ‘Office 365 Admin Center’ page in your browser. Click on the option “Manage Service Add-ins” in the left side navigation bar or click here. You will be redirected to a new page where you will see a list of all the add-ins that are currently integrated with your account. In case you do not have any add-in integrated with your account yet, then it will show a red icon with message “No service add-ins are currently associated with this tenant” just like in the fplowing image:

    Step 2. Now, click on the button “Add” in the top right corner as shown in the above image. A new pop-up window will open asking you to enter the details of the add-in that you want to integrate with your account. Here, you need to provide the details of our Appy Pie Chatbot application that has been created in our previous article by providing its name as well as its package ID at the respective place. Once you have entered the required information, click on “Add” button to proceed further. After clicking “Add” button, you will be asked to sign into your Appy Pie Chatbot application by giving the username and password of your choice. Make sure that the username and password are that of the admin user in your Appy Pie Chatbot application. Please note that if your username contains any special characters such as @, $, #, % or & etc., then you will receive an error message saying “Could not find service <packagename>” when creating a new chat bot in your Appy Pie Chatbot application. Hence, make sure that your username does not contain any special characters such as @, $, #, % or & etc., as this might cause trouble while building a new chat bot in your Appy Pie Chatbot application later on. If everything goes fine in signing into your Appy Pie Chatbot application, then you will notice two new items appearing under the “Service Add-ins” section viz., “AppyPieChatBot” and “AppyPieStartUpBundle” as shown in Figure 3 below:

    Figure 3 – After entering our Appy Pie Chatbot application details, two new items i.e., “AppyPieChatBot” and “AppyPieStartUpBundle” will appear under the “Service Add-ins” section as shown in Figure 3 above. Step 3. Now, go back to your Appy Pie Chatbot application by clicking on the link present inside the grey box as shown in Figure 4 below. Step 4. Once you are done with adding our Appy Pie Chatbot application details, it’s time to create a new chat bot for your Appy Pie Chatbot application! To create a new chat bot for your Appy Pie Chatbot application, click on “Create New Bot” button present at the bottom of the page as shown in Figure 4 below. Step 5. On clicking this button, a new window will appear containing three fields viz., Name of the chat bot, Descriptive name and Category as shown in Figure 5 below. Step 6. For Name of the chat bot field enter a unique name for your chat bot that will act as its identifier later on. For Descriptive name field enter a descriptive name for your chat bot which will be shown to end users as their question is being answered by your chat bot. For Category field select one of the pre-defined categories from drop down list that will describe what your chat bot is going to do e.g., Order Support, Sales Support etc. For example, I have selected “Sales Support” as my category for Figure 5 below. Step 7. On clicking next button (at bottom), you will be taken to a page containing two tabs i.e., Capabilities and Branding as shown in Figure 6 below. Capabilities Tab This tab allows us to define what capabilities our chat bot is able to perform i.e., can it handle orders only or can it handle sales queries also? You can assign multiple capabilities (maximum up to five. by selecting them from drop down lists provided inside these drop down lists and clicking on “Add” button available at the bottom of this tab as shown in Figure 6 below. Once you have assigned all the capabilities required by your chat bot and clicked on “Add” button at bottom, then click on Next button at top right corner (as shown in Figure 6 above. Branding Tab This tab allows us to customize our chat bot by defining some basic details about it i.e., what is its full name? its short name? its description? its logo? To answer these questions, just fill up these fields appropriately and click on “Save” button at bottom as shown in Figure 7 below. Step 8. Now that we have defined all the capabilities required by our chat bot and customized it using Branding tab by defining some basic details about it i.e., what is its full name etc., click on Next button (as shown in Figure 7 above. at top right corner of this tab page to proceed further. Step 9. On clicking next button after customizing our chat bot using Branding tab, we will be taken to a page containing three tabs i.e., Build/Test/Publish/Configure Settings, API Keys/URLs and Test Settings as shown in Figure 8 below. Build/Test/Publish/Configure Settings Tab This tab allows us to build or test our chat bot by providing appropriate URL (i.e., webhook URL. If you want to build or test our chat bot before publishing it then give its webhook URL here and click on Save as shown in Figure 8 below. API Keys/URLs Tab This tab allows us to define URLs which will be used by our chat bot to access external resources or services like notifications from Slack channel when end user sends a message to our chat bot or URL of another app that is integrated with our chat bot via Appy Pie Connector. To configure these URLs enter appropriate value(s. in these fields provided inside drop down lists available inside these drop down lists and click on Save button at bottom of this tab as shown in Figure 8 below. Once you have entered all these values and clicked on Save button at bottom of this tab page, click on Next button (as shown in Figure 8 above. at top right corner of this tab page. Test Settings Tab This tab allows us to configure OAuth scopes for our chat bot i.e., what kind of data can be accessed by our chat bot while building or testing it? To configure these OAuth scopes click on Add OAuth Scope button present at top center portion of this tab screen as shown in Figure 9 below. Step 10. When you click on Add OAuth Scope button present inside Test Settings tab screen (as shown in Figure 9 above), it takes you to a new page containing two fields viz., Application Name and Description as shown in Figure 10 below. Step 11. In Application Name field enter a unique name for our OAuth scope i.
