Amazon Simple Queue Service (Amazon SQS. is a web service that provides communication between computer systems using queues. Queues consist of messages that are stored in the queue until the message is retrieved by another computer system. The retrieval or dequeueing of the message is performed by another computer system that enqueues the message back into the queue.

The main purpose of queues is to provide communication between systems; therefore, the message must be retrieved by another system after it has been dequeued. The message will not be available if it has not been retrieved before it expires. Messages often expire after five minutes, but they can be set to expire after any time period.

According to Amazon SQS, there are two categories of queues. standard and FIFO (first-in-first-out. A standard queue enables multiple consumers to access messages that are stored in the queue. A delivery count will show the number of unacknowledged deliveries for a specific message. The unacknowledged delivery count will decrease when a message is received by the consumer. When the unacknowledged delivery count reaches zero, it means that all message deliveries have been acknowledged by the consumer.

A FIFO queue will only allow a single consumer to access a specific message in the queue. There is no delivery count or acknowledgement of a specific message. A FIFO queue is generally used to implement a First In, First Out (FIFO. application. It is also possible to create multiple FIFO queues from a single standard queue. The main advantage of a FIFO queue is that a message will be received in a specific order that was submitted to the queue. This avoids any unnecessary reordering of messages, which can occur when multiple consumers read from a single standard queue.

Amazon SQS is an excellent spution for scaling applications because it provides reliable and scalable messaging at a very low cost with no upfront commitments or long-term contracts needed. A single Amazon SQS request can deliver more than 1,000 messages per second per account and up to millions of messages per day per account. Moreover, Amazon SQS offers 99% availability and automatically replicates data across multiple data centers so that applications can stay online even during times of system outage or disasters.

Because Amazon SQS provides reliability and scalability, it is very suitable for integration with other applications. You can easily scale out your spution using Amazon SQS without having to worry about whether or not your cache server has enough capacity for your current load or whether you should spend money scaling up your cache server. Moreover, if you want to scale down again, you simply stop sending requests to your cached data, which decreases load on your cache server, and Amazon SQS decreases capacity accordingly without incurring any additional costs to you until you start sending requests again. This makes scaling your spution very easy to do without having to spend extra money on unnecessary capacity, which would result in wasted money over time if you do not use it all anyway. Your spution scales automatically based on demand, which helps you save money because you do not pay for unused capacity at peak times when your cache server might not need all the extra capacity due to lack of demand for your cached data at peak times when there might not be enough requests sent to your cache server.
