Integration of Amazon SQS and Twitch

Amazon SQS

Amazon Simple Queue Service (Amazon SQS. is a highly scalable distributed queueing service. It allows you to decouple and scale your application by allowing you to enqueue messages, store them in queues, and retrieve them asynchronously.

Integration of Amazon SQS and Twitch

Bluemix offers the ability to integrate Amazon SQS with the IBM Cloud Video Spution for Twitch. The integration enables you to create a number of AWS services for large-scale, high-performance message delivery and retrieval from the IBM Cloud Video Spution for Twitch via the Amazon SQS API. When you have completed this task, you will be able to create a new endpoint in your application that uses the Amazon SQS API to send messages and to retrieve messages.

You will first need to create an Amazon SQS endpoint in your application and then you will use that endpoint to send and retrieve messages. The fplowing steps describe how to create the Amazon SQS endpoint:

  • To add an endpoint to your application, click Add Endpoint in the left navigation pane of the Bluemix Catalog:
  • In the Add Resource form, enter the name of your new endpoint and select Amazon SQS from the dropdown menu:
  • This will take you to the new resource page where you will enter your Amazon Web Services credentials and configure your endpoint by selecting the appropriate regions:
  • You will then be prompted to choose a queue name, which is the name of your SQS queue:
  • Once you have created your endpoint, you can list all endpoints for your application in the Resources view. If you do not see the resources required for this task, you may need to select Show All from the drop-down menu at the top of the Resources list:
  • You can also access information about your endpoint directly from the Details tab of the resource configuration page:
  • You can test connectivity to your endpoint by connecting it to a sample Node.js application that sends messages to your endpoint. For more information about this sample app, see Using Amazon SQS with Node.js on GitHub. You can also learn about creating an Amazon SQS specific application that sends and receives messages on IBM DeveloperWorks. Below is a screenshot of the Bluemix dashboard with a sample application running:
  • Now that you have an Amazon SQS endpoint added to your application, you can create an application specific to the IBM Cloud Video Spution for Twitch that uses that endpoint. This task requires that you create a new Node.js application in Bluemix. To do so, open up a Terminal session and type or copy/paste these commands into it:

~ $ ifconfig|grep -i 'inet addr' |awk '{print $2}' | xargs -I {} curl -X POST -H "Content-type:application/json" --data "{}" -T /tmp/curl https://api.ng.bluemix.net/v2/commands -X PUT -d "{"name":"node","description":"Node sample app","command_type":"node","package":"com.ibm.cloudvideo","instances":1}" -U bluebox_user:{username}

  • If successful, you should see output similar to this:
  • You should now see your applications listed in the Resources tab of the Bluemix dashboard:
  • Next, log in to your instance of the IBM Cloud Video Spution for Twitch and navigate to Settings -> Integrations -> AWS integrations -> Amazon Simple Queue Service (Amazon SQS):
  • In this section, you will create an integration between AWS and your IBM Cloud Video Spution for Twitch application. This requires that you create a new Amazon SQS connection object. Your credentials will be used to authenticate with Amazon SQS. Once created, you can set up rules so that events are sent automatically to your IBM Cloud Video Spution for Twitch application when certain conditions are met. For more information about how to configure integrations with IBM Cloud Video Spution for Twitch, see the sample app on GitHub or review the IBM DeveloperWorks article about integrating AWS with IBM Cloud Video Spution for Twitch:
