For this paper, we will be focusing on an online physical retail store called ShipStation. It is a software that enables retailers to manage orders through a single platform. The platform features a unified shopping cart so that customers can purchase any of the products from a wide variety of stores and marketplaces. ShipStation integrates with one of the most popular shipping carriers in the United States, FedEx and USPS. This allows the retailer to ship packages quickly and efficiently to customers.
Another service that ShipStation offers is its Amazon Integration. This feature allows retailers to merge their Amazon sales channel into their ShipStation account. By doing this they are able to import all of their customer and order information straight from Amazon into their ShipStation dashboard. In addition, Amazon integration allows retailers to set up automated fulfillment for their orders by using Amazon FBA services. This will allow them to scale both their online and offline retail operations without having to hire additional staff or handle additional returns/exchanges.By using Amazon’s FBA services, retailers are able to send large quantities of inventory to Amazon’s fulfillment centers at low cost. Amazon takes care of all returns, exchanges, and order fulfillment, making it very easy for retailers to scale their business.
ShipStation itself has many useful features that enhance productivity and streamline shipping operations for customers. However, not all of these features can be used in conjunction with the Amazon integration. When an order is made by a customer on an integrated Amazon order, ShipStation will send the order straight to Amazon’s fulfillment center; this causes automatic fulfillment for the retailer since they no longer have to worry about fulfilling the order themselves. Since Amazon will take care of any returns or exchanges, the retailer does not have to take the time to do it themselves.
When there is a problem with an order placed by a customer on an Amazon integrated order, ShipStation sends an email alert to the customer letting them know that there has been a problem with their order. Now that the customer knows there has been a problem with their order, they can contact Amazon directly instead of contacting the retailer directly which may cause further delay in resolving the issue.I. Conclusion
Amazon SQS and ShipStation integration benefits retailers by increasing productivity and reducing costs associated with order fulfillment. Retailers who choose to integrate their Amazon sales channel into their ShipStation account are better able to manage their orders, decrease order processing times, and reduce cost per unit shipped. This integration allows retailers to integrate their entire e-commerce operation into one platform while retaining control over their inventory and customer data.
